Just a thought or a question of preference, maybe...
I guess that whenever a plane is made of metal, then you should at least see rivets (even flushed ones) on those parts...
If it is made of space age composite materials or even fiberglass and resin, then you can dispense with showing them.
If you have both type of materials, then stick with a selection as per the type of material involved.
If we take a look at the above pic, then I'd surmise that you have a plane with metal body and space age material for the wings. Is it the case ?
I must say that your previous research into spec and bump mapping was coming along very well...
Perhaps it is only a question of "dosage" of the effect. A little bit can sometime go a long way, while a little more can overdo the effect that is wanted...
Anyway you look at it, your work is gorgeous and I hope that you'll publish it soon...
