Seasonal Frame Issues

CG_1976

Ret. US Coastie/RCAF
I dont know if anyone is suffering from what I call seasonal frame loss. I fly up in the Arctic and Antactic Fall, winter and Caribbean Spring Fall. I suffer no loss with spring fall. However im losing frames in fall winter. So far it seems to be a water issue, as when i reduce the slider to 1X high i get very solid frames. Normally Im good with mid 2X. I have UTX Canada and REX. Could there be a possible water conflict between the two causing this? Im desperate my DC-3 with skis wants action:jump:.

Yup....I say you got a conflict there between some textures

Update: Isnt UTX only LC? Because my UTX US is active and frames are 35 solid still. Wonder should mt Canadian scenery in order be above or below my UTX CA?

Does the UTX scenery go into Canada ?

Try disabeling it and see how your performance does...

Went from strong 35 down to about 7-5 with stuttering severe.

Can you give a location where you're seeing this much of an effect? And the UT Setup tool allows for a fast toggle on and off, so after you find a spot with UTX active and stuttering could you exit out of FSX, run the UTX Setup tool and switch UTX off and then go back and check the area again?

UTX in Canada and the U.S. has some urban land class, but in outlying area you would see the effects of other (or default) land class being used to call textures.

UTX should be at a lower priority than smaller, more specific sceneries. Placement in the scenery library displays rendering priority and the way UTX is structured having it above any smaller sceneries more often than not will will take out some of the effects that those smaller sceneries offer. All my UTX entries are sitting right above the Addon Scenery entry in the Scenery Library.

I *think* I know what you're running into, but want to confirm before I go hunting the F1 forums for the particular fix.

Im going to hold off disabeling UTX for bit. Im getting some positive results on RD of Arctic Water textures and LC with adjustments to the Shaders.

Fps hits occur wide spread in canada's 3 Arctic Territories, Yukon, NWT, Nunavut. there really is no paticular area. Only area with similar issues is the arrow head of MN into far north WI US. Seems to be prominate with lots of lakes at varying size and texture call from the LC.

You mention that this happens near water...
If you fly in FSX and if you have disabled wave effects recently in the UTX control panel, you can experience huge performance drops over water. See here for more info and scroll down towards the bottom of the page.

You need to look in the terrain.cfg file and if you find any entries that read Effect= you will need to remove them completely.

Regards,
Toby
