Section F8 F-86 revisited

Looks really good l'iguane! You do have a sort of magic touch with these textures. There is something about photo realistic textures I don't really like. So I'm very pleased with your work.

Now looking for some time to actually fly and use these textures.

Cheers,
Huub

Hi l'iguane, looking good. Sorry I hadn't answered until now, computer crash so have been dealing with that. As far as request go, I am with Ian to start. I have in progress a version of Soesterberg AB based on Ian's Phantom era version covering 1955, 57, 59 and 62 Traffic years. so the 512/32nd paint would be a nice addition. For any other painters interested I sure could use AI Hunters (JYAI versions) and Meteors in RNAF colors of the period at Soesterberg. I am no painter!

You asked about others; these are all from sceneries I have released (except Chambley which is still in construction) that have complete ai and paints (by Deltadart) so if you are interested any of these would give the users a complete scenery to fly in.

F-86H Sq 101,131,138 Phalsbourg AB France 1961-62 (Berlin Crisis), 102nd TFW

In case you don't know there is an excellent website for paint schemes of the 86's at

Thanks for all your great contributions to the FS9 world.

I don't want to steal l'iguane's thread, but I'm really looking forward to your version of Soesterberg Al. But please beaware that the shelters present in Ian's scenery were build in 1969 and the large Zulu hangar, where the alert force was on standby, dates from 1961.

Before the Zulu hangar was built, the USAF had a large platform south of the main runway, which remained after the ZUlu hangar was constructed. While the Dutch aircraft were at a platform at the north side of the runway.

The black and white pictures shows Soesterberg in 1954 when the USAF arrived at Soesterberg AB. The Dutch used the right side of the base on this picture. The fighters were on a relative small platform next to the point where the short runway exits the main runway. And the used the wide part of the taxi track alang the hangars.

The Sabres used newly build dispersals in the woods at the top left side. YOU can see soem of them at the left side of the picture, where the taxi track bend bask to the main runway, just in front of the trees.

The colour picture shows the base in 1978. The old German (third) runway is visible on this picture, which has not been in use after 1945. This picture shows the platform. The dispersals, which were orginally used by the USAF had already disappeared for a very long time, and the replaced by the buildings from Camp New Amsterdam.

As you might have figured out already, the top photo is taken form the East and the bottom picture from the South.

Cheers,
Huub

Thanks Huub I have completely redone Ian’s version, it was just a good place start. I don’t wish to hijack this thread either but I do wish I had thought to seek advice from you about what was where and when. Right now the base has taken on a look of about 1960 or so as far as the physical look. The changes from 55 to the early sixties was pretty dramatic . So fitting in the 50’s traffic may require two versions. I would like to communicate with you via email regarding this that I can’t quite figure out from all the pictures I am working with and small bits from a book that covers the F-100 era. John Hewson put together a great photo album for me covering Soesterberg from 1944 forward. For those interested you can view it here

Thanks
Al

This is a scenery to look forward Al !
Although beeing quite busy at the time, did some progress tonight. Rather an experiment to adjust alpha and MDL specular shine with some painted/metal mix, but I'm quite happy with the result.

Cheers

@l'iguane If that CO ANG Repaint is ready to go I'd love a copy, for it's from my Home State, and the current Vipers from the 140 TFW fly over my house once or twice a Week... :)
