Section F8 Sabre Question

It seems that my SectionF8 F-86 is always low on fuel, despite efforts to pre-flight the model with as much fuel as the jet can carry. I cant even get 300 feet down the ramp to the taxi-way without getting a message saying that the fuel level is critically low, and that depressing "Control-X" will swap/replenish the fuel levels. THAT does nothing to add fuel to the plane. The fuel gauge says that it's near full, but the status panel (shift-6) says that there is only 30 minutes of air time on the selected tank.

I have found nothing in the manual for the SF8 Sabre regarding the fuel management system, and I was just wondering if there are any other F-86 drivers out there who may have also experienced this little stunt, and what you did to get rid of it, if anything.

Hey Pete -- Yeah, I read that... I did that... almost immediately after realizing that I was sitting in the office, and the canopy opens up automatically. For some reason, the F-86 doesn't recognize the command and get the message. Prolly have to un-install and re-install.

There's a few of the normal keyboard commands don't work with the Sabre, canopy being one of them on my system too,
you have to pop into the vc and make all the switches, then go flying.

I reckon every system is different. For some odd reason, Shift+E opens and closes the canopy on my F-86, but mostly the functions like "Add Fuel" (Control+X) do not. I also realized that I had the settings set to "Intermediate" on my last install of FS9 on an older machine, and a lot of these things did not come into play. I have everything ramped to the right on the new one, including the Realism settings to "Hard". After re-installing the SF8 F-86 into FS9 on the new box, I'm finding that there are a few more complexities to this magnificent bird. Seems like I'll be going back to "Swig Alley" (As depicted in the PDF file for the Sabre), to bone up on a bit more ground school.

BTW... I'll be having some of Matt Wynn's Ouzo :greece:, to help take the edge off. (That oughtta get him back here in the FS9 Forums for a bit)

Hi BB,

Just took the F-86 for a spin and realized the same fuel issue as you.
If you open the 'Drop Tank Pressure Shutoff Valve' (arrow), the remaining fuel flight time should normalize in the the F6 overview chart.

Thanks Stuart! :guinness: I have been boning up on info from the F-86's Flight Manual but I didn't, or hadn't seen the part about the pressure valve for the drop tanks. I didn't realize just how complex this model is until I put it on the Jetline and ramped the sliders in FS9 all the way to the right.

And as far as young Matt is concerned... hey Pete, you wanna know what's really inside those drop tanks on the Sabre? Be careful not to switch them on for this run only, and there'll be plenty of fuel in the fore and aft tanks to get me where I needs to go. When I land at the next FBO, there's a party waiting, because I'm brining the ouzo stash... yeah, the one that Nigel and I grabbed a few months back and hauled it off in Milton's superb Avia 57, the "Savannah Queen" :medals:. LOL!

Well, bloody heck! Following the advise of Stuart and Pete, and getting a review from ground school, I climb back into the cockpit and light the F-86 up. She winds up eagerly, moos happily, cleans out and sounds ready to go. Drop tank pressure switch set to OPEN, fuel transfer set to ON, landing and position lights ON... ATC clears me for the roll out and the message that I have critically low fuel pops up AGAIN. Buggar! Upon checking the status panel the available flight time on the selected tank (drop tanks) is about 55 minutes.

Suffice to say, I took off from Townsville (Queensland) Australia, climbed out to 13,000 feet effortlessly and boogied along, eventually landing at Cairns with juice to spare. All the while, that bloody message telling me that I was critically low on fuel and to hit "Control X", popping up every now and then, was starting to get under me skin just a bit.

I've run out of ideas here, mates. The SF8 Sabre is the only plane in my virtual hangar that has this little hiccup. I reckon I could just ignore it, everything else for the model works perfectly.
