Seeing the destruction of an F2 tornado first hand.

On Monday, one of my buddies in Eden, NC called and asked if I'd like to take a road trip Tuesday and Wednesday. He heads the Eden Red Cross and they were going to Rowland, NC to help with clean up and temporary patch up for the folks hit by an F2 tornado this past Saturday. It was Monday before tree crews got all of the roads passable and the trees off of people's roofs and automobiles.

Mike told me I would only be needed in a consultant position for patching the roofs, as they had plenty of volunteers to do the labor. Folks, when you see the damage these things do, there is never enough people to do the labor! So I pitched in too and guided and nailed and covered and went from one house to another the past two days. I think my final count was 17 homes with major roof damage, those you see covered in blue plastic are major, insurance adjusters will see those first. The ones with minor damage like shingles broken of blown away, I simply dry in with 90-lb felt paper. I'm back in one piece, my back is "killing" me! But I feel good inside, because the Lord will see to it I get better, he knows I did my labor in his name.

Rowland was the southernmost town in NC hit by the devastating tornadoes this past Saturday. This was Monday.

Was I the only one who thought the title meant the thread was about the Tornado F2 Air defence fighter?

I do feel sorry for those who lost loved ones in this indiscriminate act of nature. Every now and then nature has a habit of telling us whose boss.

I do feel sorry for those who lost loved ones in this indiscriminate act of nature. Every now and then nature has a habit of telling us whose boss.

There were 23 deaths throughout NC, nearly twice the total of 44 from all of the tornadoes that were spawned across the southeast this past Saturday. But the good thing about Rowland is that no one was even seriously injured.

Almost a year ago we had an F3 tornado pass through this county and there is still clean-up/repair work going on. It first touched down to the west of our town then thankfully for us slid onto the lake and crossed the bay just south of us. Unfortunately it then came ashore again and hammered the town to the east of us.

It arrived in the early hours of the morning and most people were in bed asleep. Remarkably there were no deaths and only a couple of cases of reported minor injuries. Had it arrived in the daytime I fear things could have been far worse. This area has the highest concentration of greenhouses in North America (if not the world) and many were obviously destroyed in a split second sending shards of razor sharp glass flying through the air along with all the timber and roof shingles from damaged trees and homes. Anyone outside would have been sliced to ribbons in the blink of an eye!
