Ship`s files questions

Thanks SW, I`ll get that mission in a minute. Spent about an hour trying to land on Sicily. Man, I`m all over the place today, and to make things worse the little smart*** is telling me it`s ok to land, today! Got to read cody`s book, find about the time and weather in MB. Can`t wait to land on her and have a look around, and maybe kick that LSO. Bad news about Netwings. See ya

Don't worry about the LSO to much, he and I have had quite a few words over the years.....Actually just did a check of the DP files in a few carriers, under landing aids and LSO it seems some are the same for different ships and some don't even have this listed :isadizzy: Perhaps a little tweeking of the numbers might get the LSO cured of his Wall-Eye affliction.

And just to throw this into the scene again it might help the AI land and even help pigs fly :jump:

Well, that was not easy. Finally landed and took off from that little bugger. I have the dynamics set with the -2 and 4 adjustments. I am sure it is nothing like the video, as my wheels are not bouncing off the deck, while parked. I would have to say this is a good way to learn how to land. Please tell me it doesn`t get worse than this! When I came around again, it was perfect,but I forget to lower my tail hook. The "mission" I "made" was just ships and a waypiont for each. F4F, same idea, 3 dots, not really going anywere. Just wanted to see if the carriers were going to be "solid". LSO seems to work for some carriers. Well,I`m off to find the Lex, she seems to have a mind of her own, the others are staying on coarse. SW07, I am going to install Leyte this AM. Slowly, I am getting a little better with the pc and the sim. Thanks, guys P.S. Just flew Leyte mission. Really great, Shadow Wolf 07. Every now and then my joystick settings screw up. I have all trim setting on stick and set to "repeat". No problem saving ammo, to busy messing with trim, I may have gotten someone on the carrier wet. F6F was different for me. Oh, I have all kinds of excuses for failing! Like I said, I am doing ok with level cruising, and I AM still in flight school. That is all you could ask for and more in a mission. I`ll let you know when i complete it. Must read the text again. Easy to install,just 2 drags.

Save your ammo - 900+ rounds, have 2 wingmen and 25% fuel when you warp home - and you'll have to defend your carrier from incoming bandits before you land. :wavey: A good way to save fuel is to throttle back to 70% and lean out the mixture immediately after takeoff. If you get to the defensive phase, ignore the fighter escorts and save your ammo for the dive bombers and torpedo bombers. The fighters will return to base after the DBs and TBs are shot down... you'll probably land on fumes. :)

Boy, I think you covered it all in this mission, SW! I had to go to my B24 Guy hellcat. I think I got a bomb on carrier, looked back and saw small explosion. Set 2 zeros on fire, I think someone else finished them off. I have to tell you, I needed every aid I could find, even the yellow brackets. I`ve tried it three times, and each time somehow lost focus, and got into spins that i could not get out of. I love this mission!!!

With the Hellcat I usually go 40% flaps and 50% power and dive bomb. Hit that target carrier as soon as you can and once she's sunk, recall the remaining wingmen before they follow it down into the sea. The mission is set up so that if it reaches a certain waypoint, it will launch fighters. Sink her before she reaches the next waypoint and the fighters will develop an engine fire (simulatin a hit during launch). Then go Air to Air, sending winmen with bombs left after one of the remaining ships. Note: you'll have a lot of company in the air, so watch out for collisions. Save fuel and ammo for the recall message and return home.

If you survive with enough ammo, wingmen and fuel to spawn the attack on your TF, keep in mind that you will get some help from other F6Fs returning from the strike and some F4Us that will be launched as CAP to assist you.

Enjoy :ernae:

Thanks SW 07, I plan to fly the mission at LEASTonce a day. Still need lots of work on the basics, but, it`s nice to get out there and do some damage to someone else for a change. The wife is going to try the sim later today. I may be sorry for suggesting this.

Have fun, I have replaced many of the ships in my copy with Collin's carriers and VN ships. The action gets so busy I harly have time to notice except when landing. :)

Another thing you can do

Add entries for hardness and priority to the [MISC_DATA] paragreph near the bottom of the cargo ships' dp:

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=5
category=19
allegiance=4
min_speed=0
cruise_speed=30
max_speed=50
entered_service=12/1/41
priority=5
hardness=1

This "tells" the AI to attack them instead of warships when no target is designated.

Hi SW 07, thanks, there is no way I would ever figure this stuff out on my own. When I first signed up for the navy, I was supposed to be a comp. tech., they scrubbed the coarse because nobody had seen the computers yet. That was over 40 yrs. ago. Another missed opportunity. I`m still trying to fly the stockers at 100% on all hard settings. I feel if I go back to med setting, I`d be cheating myself. When (???) the AV history aircraft return, I`ll at least try F4F, F6F,F4U and P40 if they have one. Boy you really miss all the downloads when you can`t get them. Thanks, again

Keep on truckin at 100%. I have the 1% F4F, 2 different F6Fs (one with 20mm) 3 F4Us and the Chinese 1% P40 archived somewhere. If you want, I can dig them out and send them to you. I also have a 1% version of that mission you like uploaded here at the outhouse but you'd need several Japanese planes and the 1% Avenger in addition to the F6F and F4U listed above. (the 1% avenger needs the 1% SB2C since the avenger's sound is aliased to it)

thanks SW 07, I got my hands full now, but if the 1% are gone for too much longer (months), f4f and f6f would be great. I think they are going to be my main rides. In your missions, I moved toward the stern, and got the speed i needed. That`s one heavy load!

With the 1% planes you'll need the generic gauges pack as well as the planes... I'll try to get around to sending them to you this weekend.

That would be great SW! I went to the ad a Mr. JD Tinballs (heh, heh) mentioned, alas, all you could do was see a list of 1% stuff. I flew a couple of them awile back, but not with reality x or whatever it`s called. also there was a couple of files of fancy paper work, which I barely looked at. This time I`ll treat them like gold! Thanks, Man!

Well when you get better at landing the 'orrid flying things, try Furious18, and when you get REALLY GOOD, try Furious 17. But, say goodbye to your hair...:icon_lol:

regards Collin:ernae:

Collin; I just read the text, explaining how to land on "17". Well, I`ll get a hairnet. The worst thing is, I`m trying to quit smoking. I keep the smokes out in the garage. If I crash, out I go. If I have a hairy landing out I go. By the sound of the read me file, I may have to move to the garage. What kind of aircraft could possibly do this landing? `Copters were not to common in those days were they? Maybe, I will quit by new years. The Lex was very nice! Thanks for everything.

Or you can try this:

(I don't remember where I found the USS Ranger CV4... I think maybe she's a VN Ship from here at the Outhouse. Both attempts, stock B-25 and 1% were with full bomb loads at top carrier speed into a 10 knot wind. I put tailhooks on both birds. The multiple 1% B-25H shot was done in online play a few years ago with tailhooks for landing.)

No Way!!

SW, I don`t think I have enough years left in me to land one of those on an empty deck. Now, I can`t even look at the posts without needing a smoke! Crazy stuff, thanks dude.

Mariereid, move out to the garage and don't forget the toilet:icon_lol:

Try this aircraft..Sopwith Cuckoo by Stuart Green (excellent designer).

Furious18
There are some string thingies for the hooky to foul and bring you to a halt before you disappear down the funnel (to be served with proper chips to the crew). Fold the wings and gun the engine to run along the gangway to the bow section, unfold wings and take-off.

Furious17
Chant for at least 10 minutes, light all the candles you have and sacrifice any living thing within the garage.
Come in very low and slow and as you get to the bridge superstructure cut the engine and glide in just missing the forward hatch.....then pray. If you are successful you may change your underwear.:icon_lol:
