Hey guys: I have been trying to move objects from left side to right in these managers, and can't do it. At the moment, I only have 53 ships and 43 aircraft, so it's not a big problem yet. It looks pretty simple. I must be missing something, seems like a moron (me) should be able to handle this.

For aircraft there's a better tool: Morton's CFS2 Aircraft and Mission Utility V.2.0
 
You didn't mention if these were new to you or if you've used them before.

If you just got them, you need to also download Martin's latest DLL files to insure they will work properly. If you didn't do that, go to Martin's Home Page: http://fly.to/mwgfx/ and click on the link for the latest version of his mwgfx DLL package.

If you do have that installed, then the operation is straight forward as you probably saw, highlite a plane on the left or right, click the >>> or <<< button and it moves over.

If you've already done this and it isn't working right, I'd first try reinstalling the DLL package and if it still isn't working, send Martin an email.

Personally, I prefer ACMan to Morton's utility. It's just a matter of taste, sort of a Ford versus Chevy thing.
 
Thanks guys; It is the first time, and I do not have DLL files. I'm off to Martin's site. Thanks CC, I saw in the last pages of your book, where to find all the good stuff. I have bee trying to find where I read " or just add kill flags". Now I remember, maybe i'll pick up DXTBmp while I'm there, I may not know how to use it, but at least I can read about it.
 
S~ Cody and mariereid. Yes that DXTBitmap is a useful utility. I'm out of the net for a couple of weeks - taking a vacation in Hawaii with my 11 year old daughter. I'll check in when I can and help if possible - brought my laptop with me :)

SW; For goodness sake, even on vacation your still guiding me along! That is the true value of this site, people who are willing to help others. I'm not sure if Martin's stuff get's along with vista. Installed mwgfxdll, did not make difference, must be another part to it. I do not need shipman or ac man, at the moment, just thinking about future. Have fun, enjoy vacation, I will bombard you with questions when you get home.
 
In Vista it is best to set the program (or shortcut) properties to "Run this program as administrator" in the Compatibility tab.
By default Vista (UAC) prevents the changing/moving/renaming of files inside "Program Files" so if your CFS2 is located here then Acman won`t be able to move files between folder/hangars unless you do this. The alternative is to change the security level of your CFS2 folder to allow full access but this is more complicated... (the worst alternative is to disable UAC entirely and this is not something I would recommend if you value your system security)

Generally you will find that many older programs that have problems working properly in Vista can be simply fixed by altering the properties as above. You will get the UAC prompt each time you run it but you get used to that after a while.

This is why Vista can be confusing. If you have UAC disabled (again... NOT a good idea) then programs like this work with no problem. If you have CFS installed outside Program Files (on a different drive for example or in c:\games or some other folder) then it is no longer UAC-protected and the programs work with no problem. So some people report no problems at all while others can`t get it working which confuses everyone (including me when I`m trying to track down user problems)

Virtually all my programs will work on Vista as far as the actual code goes. The problems come when, being older code, they don`t allow for the extra system-level security that UAC applies. When I eventually get around to "vista-ising" my older programs all I will be doing in most cases will be to add a manifest that basically does does the same job as the properties setting shown above and tells Vista to request Administrator access from the user when starting it every time.

Well that sure was easy! run as admin did the trick! Thanks Martin, I was wearing my middle finger out(not from tapping mouse), trying to get something to move somewhere.

SW I wish I knew you were going to Hawaii ahead of time and we could have met up somewhere on the Islands.As is I left on July 3 to sail back to Tahiti for th 4th time and arrived there thursday.

Just a quick note - Don`t set DXTBmp up as described above.
DXTBmp is one of the few programs I have done a full MS-style Vista redesign on and it will work correctly without causing a UAC prompt every time you start it. You will only see UAC when you try to save a texture file to a protected location and you can ok it then. Under normal use (opening files, saving to non-protected locations etc) it will work without showing the annoying UAC prompt.
It will still work with the properties set as described before BUT a side effect of doing this is that it will no longer open files passed on the commandline or open files via the windows File Association settings. This just seems to be the way UAC works....
