Shockwave 3D Lights!!!!

There is also an A2A forum going, where members have been posting their configurations for years!
Almost every model is mentioned.
Some might not be that accurate, but slight mistakes are easily fixed. It saves you starting from scratch!
I just google 'Shockwave lights for Howard 500' and come up with 'The Shockwave Community...':

http://shockwaveproductions.com/for...tdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=pmdg&start=75

Guess what? exactly the same settings as Paul's! :)
In case of the Howard I have // the strobes as it looks like a night club, not a vintage plane!

This is really a vast database.

As for Warhorse's problem, I have encountered the same before. Just by re-installing the stock lighting and overwrighting the old, the problem was solved. The Shockwave fx re-appeared too! Don't erase the effects folder, just reinstall the fs9 lighting.
Good luck!

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it....

Okay, here we go..

I got the Shockwave Lights Redux for FS9 just 3 days ago exactly. I knew about them, read about them, and procrastinated about buying them until I picked up the Flying Stations Canberra's a few days earlier. :salute:

So far it is been a love/hate relationship. Mostly love.

Since I have sooooo... many aircraft, the first thing I did was visit the A2A forum and copy all the light config files that I could find - both from their database, and from individual posts with a focus on my aircraft. I don't fly tubeliners, but I have tons of military aircraft. :wiggle:

The next step was trying some of the setups. Some worked, and some fell flat. I found in half the cases the configs were not updated, so the coordinates were way off. So, by trial and error I've been able to get about 25 aircraft installed with the Shockwave lights. I think I've got about another 3 months of work ahead of me, LOL. :jump:

For the most part the configs worked quite well for older designs such as the Aerial Foundry A/F-18 series. But where there were no coordinates for the landing lights, or where nearly all the lights were built into the model, it got tough trying to set these up. For the most part I'm pleased with the results. The Howard 500 was the only one where I had problems. The more aircraft I did, the more I refined my technique and the more familar I became with the variety of lights provided.

One of the first things I noticed was that I had improved night shots. There was more clarity and less problems with runway lights, etc. Maybe it's just my imagination, but something improved on my old computer.

I've setup a couple aircraft from scratch since I couldn't find any config files, such as for the MAAM B-25.

B-2512.jpg

When I did this I realized that I had no reference to what a real B-25 looks like at night with all the lights. So it came down to personal preference.

B-2513.jpg

I really am glad I got the product. I do wish there were some more tutorials available or even some tools that help with identifying coordinates for the various lights (included in the model, and not in the aircraft.cfg file) and some way to better select the best light option.

There is a switch in the Howard 500 which is dedicated to the strobe lights only so you can keep them in the aircraft CFG and turn them on and off from the aircraft light switches.

Regards Paul Day.

Warhorse - please let me know when you've figured out AH's Mosquitos and P-38s!

I've trawled their forums to no avail and had no luck trying myself - maybe a problem on aircraft with fold-down landing lights.

ps - any chance of posting your B-25 config?

Cheers, A.

Gentlemen,

The lights outboard of the engines are wing ice lights. They can be found on the co-pilot's knee panel in the Ice Section.

You can get to it quickly in 2D mode with shift+2 or shift+9.

In the VC, just glance over and down, and there she be. :)

Just a reminder, these panel docs are in the Panel Documentation folder of the aircraft.

Thanks for the feedback.

Aardvark, I did the B-25 setup late yesterday and want to check a few things before I share the results.

As for the Aeroplane Heaven/Just Flight Mossie and Lighting, I'll get to these eventually. I'm doing just a little each day starting with those aircraft I'm currently flying. These two are in my "Hangar" for the moment. They will be more challenging because the landing lights are built into the models, so I will have to figure out the coordinates by trial and error. The Nav and VCLights should be no problem.

Milton, I read the manual and have tried all the panel switches. I get the VC, landing and ice lighting but not the beacon or nav lights. I'll give it another try later. This is a clean install with the update, BTW. Maybe I should try a reinstall without the update??
:ernae:

Thanks all.

These are the nav lights in the Howard .... not sure why the Shockwave lights would not show there.

light.0= 3, -0.9, -36.0, 3.05, fx_navred
light.1= 3, -0.9, 36.0, 3.05, fx_navgre

This is what the SDK says but you may want to check their docs on this:

Switches (first element of each line):
1 – Beacon
2 – Strobe
3 – Navigation or Position
4 – Cockpit
5 – Landing
6 – Taxi
7 – Recognition
8 – Wing
9 – Logo
10 – Cabin

Parameter Examples (from C182 aircraft.cfg) Units Description
light.n light.0 = 3, -3.03, -18.11, 3.58, fx_navred
Feet The switch (or circuit) code, longitudinal, lateral, and vertical position, and effect file.

Okay, Aardvark. Here you go. Give this a try.

[LIGHTS]
//#1=beacon #2=strobe #3=nav

//#7=recog #8=wing #9=logo
//index,type, long, lat, vert, fx_filename

light.8= 2, -12.70, 0.00, 4.50, fx_shockwave_navwhi_nl //fx_navwhi
light.9= 2, 5.20, 0.00, -3.00, fx_shockwave_navwhi_nl //fx_navwhi
light.10=2, -21.40, 0.00, 4.00, fx_shockwave_beacon_rotating_red //fx_navred
//---------effects below controlled by XML gauge-----------------
//---------------port flash---------------------
light.11=8, 3.45, -9.55, 0.00, fx_B25_BlueFlash1d
light.12=8, 3.25, -9.55, 0.00, fx_B25_BlueFlash2d
//---------------starboard flash----------------
light.13=9, 3.45, 9.50, 0.00, fx_B25_BlueFlash1d
light.14=9, 3.25, 9.50, 0.00, fx_B25_BlueFlash2d
//------oil drips----(press "O" key)-----------
light.17=2, 3.0, -9.55, 0.00, fx_Radial_Oil_Drip
light.18=2, 3.0, 9.55, 0.00, fx_Radial_Oil_Drip

For the record, here's what I did.

All the coordinates were already in the aircraft.cfg file, so the first thing was to replace the key lights with the Shockwave lights. The slashes on each line // are to preserve the original effects file in case I needed to remove the shockwave light.

I didn't like the first set of Shockwave landing lights I selected, so I swapped them out several times until I got the effect I wanted. After getting the landing light effects, I repositioned them forward and slightly below their original coordinates. This placed the beam between the lights on the wing and the modeled effect on the ground.

Since my original post from last night the last thing I did was fiddle with the beacon lights. If you study the coordinates closely for lights 4 and 10, you'll note that they are identical. The only difference is that light.4 is for a beacon and light.10 is for a strobe. The above setup adds a nice rotating red beacon in the right place. Personal preference.

Let me know how they work for you.

Thanks

Thanks, Milton.

I got the lights working after several attempts. I restored the [lights] section, and just rebuilt it rather than relying on what I found on the A2A forum. Made one coordinate adjustment on the landing lights, and all looks great. Thanks for hanging in there for me. :wiggle: You can get back to the AT-11, now. LOL :ernae:

I'm not Warhorse, but just happen to have the configured AH Mossie at hand:

[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 3, 0.59, -26.37, 1.33, fx_shockwave_navred
light.1 = 4, 8.67, 0, -0.42, fx_vclight_red // MkIV only!!!
light.2 = 3, 0.62, 26.43, 1.36, fx_shockwave_navgre
light.3 = 3, -30.94, 0, 1.39, fx_shockwave_navwhi
light.4 = 3, -30.93, 0, 1.15, fx_shockwave_navred
light.5 = 4, 4.16, 0, 1.70, fx_vclight_red
light.6 = 5, 0.22, 14.37, -0.61, fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrow_down

Now you tell me. I could have saved an entire afternoon. Thanks Stuartcox.

And thank you for the links, OleBoy. Got some there that I need.

Sorry Warhorse! I should have let you get on with it! Good practice! :)

Thanks OleBoy, this comes in handy! Just one question:
Where did you get the 'fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrow_down_old' from?
It's not in my SW package, nor in the latest update...

Hello Stuart. I hadn't had the program installed until I responded. They are in fact in there.
...These old.fx files are the in the effects folder after install.

fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrow_down_old.fx
fx_shockwave_landing_light_narrow_old.fx
fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_old.fx

No idea why you would not have them?

A re-install solved it! They must have got lost over time.

If any of you have Aircraft Container Manager... that makes adding shockwave lights almost a no brainer.

It's how I do my lights. Unfortunately, ACM seems to have gone vapor ware since an FSX version would be handy too.

Maybe Abacus could be persuaded to ad a module to FS Repaint that would allow limited cfg modification visually.

Hi Guys.

Slight problem. Using Stuart's cfg setup for the Mossie as in his post above, the landing lights look as if they would be correctly positioned but it's hard to tell because as soon as they start to swing down, they do come on but then immediately retract again. They now just refuse to drop properly no matter what.

Any ideas ?

A.

EDIT - I realised after that I was having problems with landing lights not staying on across all my SW Lights installs. Problem sorted, sort of; completely uninstalled SW Lights, then reinstalled without the Utility 1.2a upgrade and presto - they're all working okay now. But without the newer additional beam effects. Hmmm...
