Sim loading time....

I suspect that slow-loading (boot) time must be directly related to the MSFS server. I use Addon-Linker religiously, and I know that the more addons that I have activated for a profile, the longer it can take to load. However, if the MSFS server is overloaded, it translates to a longer boot time. I can finish a flight, shut down my pc, and start it again a half hour later, using the same profile, and wait and wait for MSFS to boot up and it won't ever make it to the selection menu.

I do hope Microsoft is planning on server improvements. With the release of MSFS 2024, I fear such problems will increase drastically.

I understand the servers can slow down things a bit, but honnestly I've never seen any impact longer than a minute.
There is just ONE thing that made the startup times catastrophic: sceneries.
Very recently, I have been using a freeware scenery for Talkeetna in Alaska, and that scenery has some problem which makes the flight loading time abysmal. It's a known problem, Asobo never fixed it, and that scenery went to the dump because of that. I had to buy the one from OrbX instead.

When I start the sim, I like to go to the kitchen and make a pizza, from scratch and when it's done, have a few slices and a beer and when I'm done washing my hands and drying them off, I walk back to the PC and the sim is just about ready to start. :)

I honestly don't think so Pete. It's addons and like Daube said, more than likely scenery addons.

I just checked, and my installation (official and community folders) is 507 GB big. My loading time is bout 1-2 minutes.

I also make sure to regularly clean caches of all sorts.

Cheers,

Well today is a matter of a different type of headache; namely bandwidth. My bandwidth is fine. Runs avg about 900mb, yet MSFS keeps switching me to Offline, telling me that my bandwidth is not sufficient. Bull crap, as in WTF?

That is a bandwidth problem, but on their end. I'll fire up the sim to see what gives. Lord knows they've had very big bandwidth problems lately.

Sim loading times are ok. But all my settings (controllers and so forth) are gone again. I'm not in offline mode, but there's stuff missing. This is the last evening of my week off, so I'm not going to let M$ have the pleasure of ruining this evening.

Well there's sim start time, and flight start time.
My sim start time is probably longer than a flight load time. I would say my sim takes up to 2 minutes to reach the menu screen. From there, a flight usually loads in one minute or just a bit more.
But with that problematic scenery bug I mentionned before, the flight load time would reach like more than 5 minutes !!

I did some internet searching for any mention of the problem I was having (being kicked offline, repeatedly). Found a thread on a forum from way back in 2021 with a reference to a Youtube video that had a solution. I checked it out.
The guy recommended downloading a "Hosts" file to replace the one in Windows. With much trepidation over messing with Windows files, I made a backup of the original and replaced it with the one he mentioned in the video.

IT WORKED!!!! Have tried several times now. Zero problems. Here is link, if anyone wants it:

The video:

That hosts file is exactly the same as I have.

BTW, before messing with that file, make sure you have a backup.

I've had it. All of my settings were completely effed up. So I went nuclear. I'll reinstall next weekend.

Today at work we had different problems with the M365 admin portal and Entra (aka Azure).

I think the problems of M$ are bigger than just MSFS, it's the whole cloud mess.

The Azure network is used by international banks and businesses, as well governments - and there are a lot of elections going on at the moment!

It's attacks really. Loads of governments and institutions have their business and data on Azure. So for people with less than good intentions, it's a prime target.

Then again, we can expect from a big player like Micro$oft to protect their infrastructure. I guess that dividends for the shareholders are more important to them...

We were notified about an Outlook 365 calendar sync issue at work today, so yeah, MS is having their share of issues.

So, I'm wondering if I should wait a while before going nuclear like Priller. I don't seem to have any connection problems, right now, but I just know I will if I try another total renew.
