Simple question Re: controller assignments.

Folks:

Since my loss of CFS3, and my inability to get it back running on my Win-7 gaming rig, I thought to try CFS2 once again, which loaded and runs very good.
I did not realize just how much fun CFS2 used to be.
So, been very busy getting missions, planes, scenery, weapons, etc to make CFS2 about half (so far) as bloated as my old CFS3 loads had become.

Got several USN and IJN planes recently needed for some missions.
I made the additional controller assignment changes for things like rear gunner views, animations, cowl vent flaps, etc.

But for the life of me, I can not find any assignment called Open/Close Canopy.
The 4- Concord Nose/Visor Extend/Retract assignments I found make things like the B6N2 M-12 Tenzan's rear gunner's canopy open and close.
But no combination of key commands I can find, or tried, will open/close any plane's main pilot canopy, if so equipped.

What am I missing?
Can I create that effect by editing the .cfg file somehow?
Is there a "Patch" hidden somewhere out there that makes upgrades to the CFS2 game for additional controller assignments?

Sorry to be a bother.

Ps: Where can I find a CFS2 Mission builder update, and is it as easy to use as CFS3's?

Canopies Are Fun

First off, Welcome Back to the Basement !!
:wavey:

The [Canopy Open/Close] is typically a [C] or [Shift + C] keystroke.

Similarly, [D] and Ctrl +D] or [Shift + D] will open the Bombay doors.

Some aircraft will not have this visual, because they weren't built that way...

SC: My thanks for the welcome. Though I miss the 10 years worth of CFS3 work I have done, I had forgotten how much I like the simplicity of CFS2.

Seems that these keys you mentioned have other uses, by default or selection by me.
EG: By default, the C key is for Chase Views; the Shift-C key is the Checklist.;
The D key I use for Auto-pilot Alt & Hdg hold for bombing. The SHift-D key has no assignment I can find.
For all planes with Bomb Bay doors, the "/" Slash key (stock Dive Brakes/Spoilers) works for them.

There is much mixing and matching among aircraft developers, as some use (this) key for a function; another uses (that) key for the same function in their aircraft.
Would it help if I un-assigned any current functions to these specific keys that these different aircraft developers use for their particular plane?
And then would their indicated function work, even if the key is completely unassigned?

There are plenty of unused keys I can use for otherwise "stock" functions, or any other stuff I choose.

What Works !

I'd say you could customize the keystrokes at will - Using [****+] or [Ctrl+] gives you a ton of options !

SC: I shall give it all a try. My thanks for the rapid responses.
Am loading several new planes and weapons packs today, so this will be very helpful.
This should close the issues for now.

Rgr, by default it is Shift + C to open /close canopy. If it is anything different it is because you set it so. As above, D (by default) opens/closes bomb bay doors or dive brakes (on some planes) .

Shadow Wolf and SC7500: Can you spell "Idiot" ?:isadizzy: Seems that you all were right.
I forgot that I was so very experienced with CFS3 that I completely forgot that I created a duplicate controller profile matching what I could use with my eyes closed in CFS3.
So, I selected the stock CFS2 controller profile, and clicked reset to default, then I selected CFS functions (not the FS/CFS1 functions button), and, well, all is as you all have said.
From the 6- commands mentioned, the Stock Default assignments for them is:
C = Kneeboard/Checklist
Shift+C = Toggle Main Exit (means the "Canopy", like, Duh).
Ctrl+C = Toggle Chat Window.
D = Spoilers/Dive Brakes toggle.
Shift+D = Toggle Status Message.
Ctrl+D = it is unused.
Seems that I'll now have to build a new controller function profile based on this fresh start of default assignments.
Good thing that there are a lot more open assignment keys and joystick buttons than in CFS3.
And re-learn everything specific to CFS2, that is for sure.
Sorry for the trouble, and all my thanks for your expert help.

Thanks SC: Spent the last 3- hours building on the Stock CFS2 controller assignments, and made various changes to only the additional items required by recently installed planes.
I changed nothing else, and plan soon to give it all a try.
During my hacking, I came across an old back-up HDD, and found 300 to 400 CFS3 add-ons: planes, missions, ships, effects, weapons, maps, weather, etc, all dated back to 2000 and 2002.
I'll be busy with them, and hopefully I can still find the FDG group's planes, and their weapons packs, if still available somewhere.
I'll keep hacking, and perhaps learn how to make .dp file changes to aircraft, and maybe even learn how to build missions.
Let's close this thread for now; I'll be back as necessary.
Again, thanks for your help.
