SimWorks Studios F-4B Phantom II

P.S. The VX-4 Bicentennial bird was actually an F-4J (sometimes called YF-4J) with a B radome and FIXED F-4S slats.
Well, what'd you expect? Do you have any idea how hard spares are to find these days?? You have to mix-n-match and just hope for the best :biggrin-new:

Great looking plane, you guys are making. I can't wait to see it come out.
Pat☺

F-4 airframes and 2-part epoxy resin were not strangers. You'd be amazed where it turned up.
I was I level Radar for a long time (hence the screen name :) ), so I know a lot of the little tricks for getting them going again. And VMFAT-101 in Yuma had 30+ planes all at once, and for the longest time we had Ex-Reps coming out our ears. Work every duty Section weekend was the norm, all 3 shifts. Most of us wound up going down to the squadron to help them on non-duty section days too, just to try to keep the flight schedule going.
We learned all kinds of nifty little tricks :)
Most fun we had though was when they'd send a brand new, fresh-minted Lt. up to the shop to try and teach them to run the radar. We had so much fun watching them presume they knew how to start a bench, because they theoretically could start it in the plane. Apparently they couldn't, or they wouldn't be at our shop :D
Have fun!
Pat☺

What happened when you got a brand-new boxed set of range rings?

Right. Let's see what can be done with the paint kit.
Those of you who want it can find the paint kit at the bottom of the page here.

Go for it!

This is from the Simworks forum, re: the latest update...

  • v0.98 - Flaps can be controlled using the F5 to F8 key range due to the new "autoflap" feature. If you are using a joystick to control the flaps, you may need to redo your programming.

So does this mean I have to use keyboard controls for the flaps? I have tried reassigning the controls using the FSX Controls menu, but will not work. I have FSUIPC, but have not had much luck assigning things using it. Confuses me.

NC:dizzy:

I use my Saitek 52 controller for flaps for all other aircraft. This ain't cool!

Btw, I tried to ask this question on the Simworks Forum, but the &$#@ing security question verification is exasperating, to say the least. I gave up trying after six plus attempts. Is it really necessary to have such strict verification for a forum???? :banghead:

I agree about the Flaps Selection Chief. The current setup totally disrupts my HOTAS Flows & Assignments and makes the general feel/use of the F-4B awkward at best. I hope they take this under consideration and create a workaround or revert back to the original setup.

Right now you are restricted to F5-F8. Changing the key assignments will not work as we are looking at the keyboard, not the assignment. We are already working around it and will be out of the way for v1.0.

Due to the amount of Spambots roaming it we need the verification for a user's first five posts. To be honest I wasn't aware that it was so averting. I will update the answers to be less case-sensitive and more straightforward tomorrow.

I understand the need to prevent Spambots, etc...., but why the need for questions? Why not just a image like most sites? Having to answer questions for a post seems a little over the top, in my opinion, and definitely annoying.

I just went back and reread your post, Alex. So if I understand correctly, it is only for a users first five posts? So after that the verification is not used? NC

That is correct. After you get past the first 5 posts you don't have to do any verifications.

SWS F-4B Prepar3D v3 compatibility

After many problems and delays, we have now a Prepar3Dv3 version of the F-4B ready for public release and are uploading it. Version 0.98a will be up later today. Existing customers will receive an e-mail telling them that it has been updated as soon as it is ready.

Version 0.98a also serves as a hotfix for some issues that arose with 0.98. Here is the changelog:
  • Added P3Dv3 option to the installer
  • Flaps are now not limited to the F5-F8 keys. You can now use your joystick and custom FSX controls.
  • Ensured that keystroke processor always runs when you re/load the plane.
  • Stability Augmentation System is now more efficient at stabilizing the plane around the roll axis
  • Added a saved flight that starts you in the air, near the Coral Sea battlegroup in the Tonkin gulf. The flight can be found under (FSX or P3D root)\SimWorks Studios\Flights
  • No other change to v0.98 has been made for this version.

Enjoy some screenshots from P3Dv3 using our F-4B and USS Coral Sea!
Note: the static aircraft shown will be released with v1.0

There are 19 pages for this thread, and I have never mastered the process of using the SEARCH function.... Would someone please post the process for Updating the Simworks Phantom? The Installation menu for these updates always confuses me...:banghead: NC

Well, if it's anything like their last update, you just download the file to your computer, double click on it....and it updates everything.

Here you go NC....here's a by the numbers version of the update process:

1. Download the update (SWS_F4B_Beta_0.98a_setup.zip).
2. Open the zip file to extract the installer (SWS_F-4B_Phantom_II_Beta_0.98a_081216.exe).
3. Open the installer file (SWS_F-4B_Phantom_II_Beta_0.98a_081216.exe).
4. Click next.
5. Enter the serial number ( i.e. the one you received when you purchased the SWS F-4B).
6. Click next.
7. Read the license agreement.
8. Click next.
9. Select your version (FSX, Steam, P3D v 2, P3D v 3)
10. Cick next.
11. Verify the destination folder is correct for your particular FSX installation.
12. Click next (installer will then start updating).
13. Click Finish once the installer is done.

Personally, I'd delete the aircraft folder first - just to make sure that there are no 'overwrite' issues with same-name files.
