this is tough, but in no particular order are my favourites....
-Les Chevaliers Du Ciel

-007 (The Entire lot from Connery to Craig, can't pick a favourite bond movie)

Unfortunately for most of the movies I like, I can't watch them unless the family is away. I like the surround sound cranked high enough to rattled the windows.

Me too. I've gotten some strange looks after cranking up the beginning of Saving Private Ryan or some of the helicopter scenes in Black Hawk Down.

you see, that's precisely the trouble with making such a list.
these days the crap/quality ratio from hollywood is very high.
but over time, and around the globe, there are sooo many good movies.
i could produce separate lists for
john wayne, jimmy stewart, henry fonda (certainly not the other fondas) robert redford, don knotts, clint eastwood, just to name a few super-ultra-mega stars of stars.
and then still separate lists again for categories like westerns, war films, christian cinema, drama, wushu, period films, sword films, kurasawa films, horror, comedy, asian cinema, gangster films, action films, sports films, and on and on and on.
so, no matter what category you choose to explore we will all have some favorites to reccomend. we're pretty lucky i think.

Me too. I've gotten some strange looks after cranking up the beginning of Saving Private Ryan or some of the helicopter scenes in Black Hawk Down.
The best surround sound shaker I have found is the beginning of Dante's Peak.

TopGun...a love-hate relationship deluxe.
To like it you either have to be young and innocent or absolutely devoid of military aviation knowledge or both.
Rationally, there's no reason at all to watch or like this movie. Awful story, awful flying, awful cuts. The best thing about it is the cinematography between cuts.
And still you watch it over and over again...for your memories when you watched it in your early teens. Argh!

Haw! One of the best ever...
Downunder, it's a pickup truck!
..or just love fast, noisy aircraft that fly off ships and shoot stuff, and...and...
It's a landmark movie, the US Navy didn't need any recruitment drives for years.
When to everyone's surprise it was a smash hit, they wanted to make TG2.
Turns out they had used every single bit of the air-air footage previously shot. (Essentially unheard of in moviemaking)
The Navy had tired of the game, and so the sequel died right there.
The fact that this is believable proves the cheesiness of Top Gun.
