Skylane has inspired me ...to keep painting

SOH-CM-2025
Skylane new mission pack has inspired me (once again). ;)

A couple of WIP shots for you to chew on...

Happy holidays everybody!

Inspiration

I like 'em too!

CFS 2 still is the best inspiration and canvas for historic repaints as well as carrier ops out on the high seas.

Carrier based D3A Val skinpack has been uploaded. Meantime, the camo refit for HMS Hermes is almost done ...

Slow but deadly (Marine Corps style)

Some more WIP shots... The OH stocker with new clothes on... ;)

Thank YUuuuuoooo!

Great new skins for the Hermes and Hurricanes in Skylane's NEW Ceylon. Just in time too, cause I'm just getting started flying Ceylon.
Great adds....UT.

These G2K files take a while to compile, so I amuse myself by painting some more.

VS41 USS Ranger NOV 42

Those last two are absolutely stunning UncleTGT

Love your work, Have you considered doing some skins for the WWI birds? The Aerocrate planes are brilliant but a few of them would benefit a couple of skins (SE5A and the two seaters?)

Hey UT,
When did they do the yellow around the Roundels?
was that only for 42'?
i know we had a few veriations through out the war. wasn't red used in the ETO? i can't remember now.

Hi BH, the yellow surround was just for Operation Torch. Even cooler are FAA a/c wearing US roundels for the same op (thought it would upset the French too much otherwise LOL).

Hi Ian,

Never considered a WW1 install, but BH23 posting his recent work might get the juices going ...

Hi Blood_Hawk23,

the mid-war evolution US roundels with the star-'n-bar was first issued with a red outline from, I believe, June 1943 to September 1943 in any theatre American forces operated and for all branches of the US Armed Forces operating aircrafts. In October 1943 the red outline was replaced by the same dark blue used for the rest of the roundel. Too bad, if I may, because I always liked a lot the short-lived, red-outlined US roundel. I am not entirely sure of the exact months, I'll have to take a look in my sources when I go home from work. Anyway, it was used only in summer and early fall of 1943.

The US roundel remained the same throughout WWII, until the United States Air Force became an independent branch in 1946, when a thin insignia red line was added in the middle of the lateral bars of the roundel.

I checked me books!

OK, I checked my Aerospace's "Aircraft" publication: the red-outlined US roundel was in use July through September 1943.

Small correction... the US Air Force did no exist in 1946!

Since WW1 and during most of WW2 it was the United States Army Air Corps.... Then it became... sometime around 1944... the USAAF... or Unite States Army Air Force...

and officially, the USAF or US Air Force came into being in 1948... today celebrated as the USAF birthday... through executive order by Pres. Harry S. Truman...
