Sluggish/slow turning aircraft

WWII4444

I noticed that some of the add-on aircraft i downloaded were acting kind of slugish and would turn slowly. two of the ones i noticed were the AB a6m2 zero and the US1 P-36 Hawk. help fixing this problem would be appreciated very much.

Have you tried reinstalling them by any chance?

Case in point, back years ago we all flew the 1% AVHistory F6F-5's in squad competitions and I experienced the same as you as this particular aircraft was a slug and resulted in my being shot down several times vs. the other 1% F6F that I used in which I did fairly well. It simply didn't make sense since no one else had any problems with it. Frustrating to say the least.

Long story short, a simple reinstallation cured the overly sluggish F6F-5 characteristics that I experienced.

This is where I would begin, hope it works for you.

also... delete the cdp file in the aircraft's folder if there is one.

there was one in the Zero but not the Hawk
plus it only happens when i get into the thick of combat and I've reinstalled them many times

and the cdp file comes back every time i use the AB zero

The cdp file is automatically generated by the sim the first time you use the plane....it is a code that helps the sim load and utilize that plane faster during following flights with that plane....a sort of check list or something.

Sometimes a plane package will contain a cpd file as part of the package...and since that cdp file was created on a different computer, it can sometimes cause performance problems in your sim. Deleting the cdp file and allowing your sim/system to generate a new on is always a good idea.

Also, when you install new weapons it is also a good idea to delete the filelist.dat files from the scenery/weapon/scenery folder and allow the system to generate a new one. If these planes came with weapons packs that needed to be installed, delete the filelist.dat file from the weapons/scenery folder and allow your sim to make a fresh one....sometimes this is the cure for performace issues.

To Elaborate

... and I apologize for forgetting who shared this originally...

But this BAT file resides in the root of every CFS2 install on my computers, and gets run somewhat regularly.

Try it / You'll like it - it automates the deletion of several "hinky" troublemakers.

[Change the ZIP extension to .BAT !]

Perhaps you could try another Zero air file from another plane that flies correctly. Copy the Zero air file into the AB Zero folder, rename the AB air file, and name the new air file the same as the old AB air file.

I agree with Oglivie although the AB aircraft are usually souped up a bit. The only other factor that has a bearing on an aircraft's ability to turn is its speed. High speed turns are not crisp by any means. If the aircraft turns crisp at 200 to 250 mph the airfile is fine. Do not expect a crisp turn at >350 mph - although I do not remember at exactly what speed this diminishing ability to turn occurs for the zero or the Hawk.

From what I was able to find out it starts in CFS2 at about 180KTS to 225KTS which was true in real life.

WWII4444, hit "Shift Z" twice while flying and check your fps.
Also, AB aircraft are usually somebody else's design "shared" be AB Squad web page. You can probably find that same Zeke here or on simviation without the problems.

I don't go to his site for several reasons that I will share in an email or PM if you want to know why.

I found in some old files a list of post that not only correct alot of the AI problems but also tells you how to get them to work better in a mission.I am going to upload this info in the other section. I think this info was lost in the last crash of SOH so that is the reason for the upload.

I got the zero to work but i think I'll use the p-36 as an AI aircraft, but if the P-35 works right I'll transfer the .air files to the P-36
