smilo's Rim Shot

I AM FLIPPIN' ECSTATIC!!! :a1451: :censored: :banghead: :crybaby:

after a 6 hour 21 minute flight,
I went ahead with my plan
to land at PANC instead of PAED
in order to avoid the game crash SNAFU
mentioned in the ...Race Rules thread.

all was going along just dandy,
when I missed my approach to PANC.
I throttled up, banked to the right
and proceeded to make another attempt.
no big deal, right?
WRONG!!!

fortunately, I took a screen shot,
because Duenna also shut down
and all was lost, except the SystemLog.TXT
POOP!!!

I apologize for the size of the screen shot,
I use a two monitor set up and I usually crop off the second monitor,
but this time, there is a shot of the Duenna that disappeared.

to top all this off, this is the second time
I have attempted to post this.
the first time, this machine seized up
and I had to restart and do it again.
talk about insult to injury.

the good news is, I have a ton of screenies
to post in the Lounge after I edit and crop,
but I need to step away for a bit.
I gotta try to get the blood pumping back into my ass.
that was a hell of a long flight,
but lots of fun...except for the last 2 seconds.

I have decided to add a cropped enlargement
of the Duenna in the above screen shot.
hopefully, you can get something out of it.
there is no fuel consumption
or any of the other flight particulars.
just the flight time, location and 1 second of overspeed.

after many trials and tribulations
and an inordinate amount of dinking around,
I think I might be ready for a flight from PAED to CYVR
apparently, Spring in Anchorage makes my Sim crash.
with that in mind, the date is set to 21, June
let's just see what happens;

PAED>>>CYVR

down safe and sound;
PAED>>>CYVR

flight time=02:21:32
fuel consumption=49523.8 lbs (shocking!)
30 minute bonus for Canada

I've got to run inside
to pee and get a bottle opener,
then it's off for a short hop to KNUW
I've got some beer to deliver.

I've "acquired" a cargo bird, which is parked over at Whidbey, just in case. Should be big enough... :d

Great! Glad I got the big cargo ship then! And don't forget your navigator!

okay, the lizard is drained..check
the bottle opener is in my pocket...check
Heidi has the radios set and the course plotted.
we are set up on 120 at CYVR
going to make a high speed terrain run to KNUW.
I'll try not to shake up the beer,
But I make no promises...:jump:
Heidi likes to go fast.

WHAAHOO!!!
that was a trip!!
Heidi almost wet herself.

CYVR>>KNUW

flight time=00:08:48
fuel consumption=5820.9 lbs

I didn't want to go over 1000 feet,
but there was an island in the way.

hey Paul, got any ice?
these babies need some chillin"

:icon29::icon29::icon29::icon29::icon29::icon29:

Welcome to Whidbey Island!!!
may your stay be a pleasant one,
long and prosperous.

---------:kilroy:---------------

oh yeah, almost forgot,
Heidi needs a hug.

Thanks, smilo!

On you ill-fated flight to Alaska, because there was a "loss of telemetry" on that flight, I averaged the B-47s fuel consumption from the other legs, and applied that to the milage flown for that leg. This is for the spreadsheet that I'm working on for the official numbers.

thanks Paul, I would recommend adding a fair amount.
the run ended up being a tour of the Aleutians at 3-5,000 feet.
I dropped down at Amchitka and then followed volcanoes east,
taking a lot of pictures as I went.
if all goes well this week end,
I am thinking about reflying it.
especially now that I know what the problem was.
I plan on the same route, but with no diversions.
...if that would be okay, I don't want to screw up your spread sheet.

btw, have you seen Heidi?
tell the Navy I need my Navigator.

Roger on reflying the leg if you wish. As for Heidi, last I saw she was getting a tour of a EP-3 by a bunch of pilots... And you know how those electronic warfare guys are. Can't trust em!

she's a big girl and can take care of herself.
if you see her let her know we're leaving in the morning.

the more I think about it,
the more I think I should refly.
after all, it was my fault for not having the update
and I'm curious to see how long it will take without dinking around.
I'm just glad Mike pointed me in the right direction.
besides, what's 6 hours in eternity?

looks at watch...
tap, tap, tap...the sound of foot tapping
looks at watch...
as soon as the lovely and talented
Miss Heidi arrives, we'll get rolling

KNUW>>KEDW

08:16
well, there you are.
did you have a good time?
tell me about it later.
strap in and find your charts.
we're rolling in 4 minutes

DANG!!!
this place is desolate!
Heidi, where's the sunscreen?
we're going to wilt.

KNUW>>KEDW

flight time=02:23:25
fuel consumption=43,554.8 lbs

it took a little longer than it should have.
once again, there were some low level "side tracks".
we had to continue with our photo reccon mission.
the guys in photo processing have got their work cut out for them.

I will need at least 6.5 hours
of uninterrupted sim time to refly RJTY>>PAED
it's very hectic around here for several hours,
so I am grounded.
worse comes to worse,
I'll do it early am sunday.
we shall see how it plays out.

RJTY>>PAED update;

cruising
HDG 055
80% throttle
altitude= 37,962 feet
speed= 305 KIAS, 351 MPH, 650 MPH GS, MACH 0.92
wind=259/26 almost a tailwind, I'll take it.

am on pins and needles...
have had 2 OVERSPEED Warnings
totaling 10.6 sec on Duenna

anybody know what the max is?

I sure would like to get a better handle
on OVERSPEED and the whys and wherefores
it doesn't seem to match anything in the Aircraft.cfg

I don't have the freeware B-47 you are using, but from Alphasim B-47 .cfg as an example:

[Reference Speeds]
flaps_up_stall_speed= 155.700
full_flaps_stall_speed= 135.500
cruise_speed= 452.000
max_indicated_speed=456
max_mach=0.875

Exceeding either of these values (in your .cfg) will result in overspeed.
Your speed at any given moment in the sim can change with throttle movement, weather changes and especially wind shifts; that's the usual culprit.
