• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

...so I found this hangar

The original Pic was 216 x 144 pixels, but it was so cool (I like glasswork from the 30's) I had to do it. After I'd modeled it I found it is supposed to be Washington Highway Patrol Hangar at Olympia Regional Airport in Tumway, WA. It was built in 1936-1937.

Does anyone know if it is still standing? Note: the configuration may not be exactly correct (note original picture size ....LOL).
The answer is yes.

It is used by the Washington State Patrol located at the Olympia Regional Airport in Tumwater, Washington. My office is about a mile away.

Take a look at the building in the background...

Thought I'd point out this detail.....

There is absolutely no reason for this window to be designed like this....it serves absolutely no practical purpose. But it looks great!

Notice the fluted entryway underneath. There are 4 of these windows on each of the hangers. One at each corner.

I spotted that as well. A bit of Moorish influence I believe. Art Deco was an era in design that attempted to reconcile modernism with the decorative styles. You need only look at the water tower at Hickam to see how far this could be taken. Note the geometric cutouts.
