SOH Fairey Swordfish sounds by Nigel Richards

If you don't have the Alphasim Fairey Swordfish, get one!
And find out how that heroic old girl, the'Stringbag" flies and really sounds!!!

Smoothie is working on a stylish skin for this bird. (looking forward to this one from the WIP screenies you put up pal!)
The excellent base model and its variants offer stacks of lattitude for 'SOH tweaks' and development, so let's upgrade this old gal into something extra special...think she deserves it!

Enjoy!

thanks Nigel, another ooooh few hours, maybe around midnight will see the HAF Silver bird rolled out also (until 1800GMT this evening i'm away from the computer, tryinig to unwind for once.... still keep checking here every few mins though:jump:)

...you deserve it pal! If you have the HAF skins midnight be nice, I'll be around, but don't go putting this before the relaxation bit. Dawn will see me out of here and offline, probably a couple of weeks again.
Easter lamb roasting duties on the morrow...you know how it goes here and I bet its a pain not being here for 'Πάσχά'! (icon:lamb cooking on a spit over outdoor charcoal fire, families and friends gathered together for the celebrations, ouzo, red wine, tidbits, red painted eggs, mens talk and the list goes oh:icon)

Happy Easter to all!

yeah i miss being in Greece for easter....and christmas.... and my Birthday (Usually means free drinks all night at 1 bar in Tigaki, Kos for me).... lower wing done, onto the cowl... we're nearing finishing post!

Its 'the' place to be, especially at this time of the year.

After 31 years of living here, I still find spring in Greece breathtaking.

Early this morning I nipped back to the farm to feed the animals and on the return leg was taken aback by the mountain view between Gomati and Ierissos. Lush green foreground, Aegean's clear variations of blue glinting like the finest gem, Amouliani Island, and the awe inspiring Mt Athos looming as a backdrop...

...(icon:back on track:icon) glad you're nearly there on the Swordfish, Matt.

yeah, i miss the greens of spring changin' to the tans of the summer, then gradually reducing in saturation into the autumn and winter.... anyway.... cowl is getting there.... :jump:

...just occurred to me that the pair of us could get pretty well every thread up here on the 'stickies' (icon:the mind boggles and a hand goes over my trap...or is it; keyboard hand, to restrain myself from getting into mischief:icon)

must be something to do with sound editing; dounga-dounga, dounga-dounga, dounga-dounga, over and over and bloody over again...like marching up and down the parade ground square.

...reckon its time I had a chat with my shrink again...(icon:ddesperately searching around in all directions:icon)

where's he got to?....anyone seen him? Milton! (icon:ddesperate hollering, but alas cannot be heard:icon) Where are you?

Nigel, y'all have gone and done it again:applause: Great version of the Pegasus engine.
Hope ya don't mind, but I'm commandeering the "wind in the rigging" sound for my other open cockpit gals. Really cool effect.

Thanks racartron, glad you liked the Pegasus. Please go ahead with using the "wind in the rigging" sound, happy you have a use for them! I know from firsthand they can really 'sing' and 'howl' on the real life Stringbag, which infact uses streamlined steel rods!

Got any improvements on lights, exhaust, props Buddy?

Not much else to tweak here at the moment. I did fiddle with the effects just a bit though:

[effects]
wake = fx_wake
water = fx_spray
dirt = fx_tchdrt
concrete = fx_sparks
touchdown = fx_tchdwn_s, 1
startup= fx_msd18s
windshield_rain_effect_available = 1

And of course plug in Shockwave where feasible.

[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 3, 1.87, -22.1, 5.5, fx_shockwave_navred
light.1 = 3, 1.87, 22.1, 5.5, fx_shockwave_navgre
light.2 = 4, -2.16, 0, 2.90, fx_shockwave_vclight
//------------ ExhaustFlames--------#2=strobe
//index,type, long, lat, vert, fx_filename
light.3=2, 2.00, 2.3, -2.1, fx_V12_IDLE_starb
light.4=2, 2.00, 2.3, -2.1, fx_V12_MAX_starb
light.5=2, 2.00, 2.3, -2.1, fx_V12_Exhaust
//------------ landing lights--------5=landing
light.6 = 5, 1.65, -11.7,-1.9, fx_shockwave_landing_light_tail_old // fx_1649A_landing,
light.7 = 5, 1.65, 11.7, -1.9, fx_shockwave_landing_light_tail_old //fx_1649A_landing,

The exhausts are perfect. BTW, they are also gonna find themselves attached into other exhaust stacks as time permits.

One thing in the queue for this gal is a better (read more appropriate) radio setup. Alphasim's standard radio/AP pop up drives me crazy -- especially in vintage birds. I have several setup on hand and will be figuring out the best one -- for my tastes. I'll post them when done.

I pretty much always stick in a simple autopilot as I'm forever switching out planes in flight to test various tweaks. Without it I tend to smack various objects right after the switch -- like mountain sides, trees, lakes, etc.

...nice going racartron! The startup fx_msd18s is particularly admirable on this ship and I'm glad you did your shockwave treatment for those in possession.

Its a bummer on the propblurr and peggy details - hope someone comes up with something to add a little life!

Okay, another senior moment here, Nigel. I confused the Duck prop issue with your question about the Swordfish.

I stuck in the three blade prop blur from the new C-47 and it looks alot better --IMHO

Edit: Upon closer inspection, this one looks like a 2 blade version. I'm having issues with the atachment bits at the moment, but if you have the AAM994 livery try that one as it does look more realistic

Racartron, yep, definately worth giving this one a try. Senior moment, nonesense! ...its all this flitting from aircaft subiect to subject...certainly got my head spinning.

Great here aint it?

Super repaint, love the new crew!

Any ideas how to delay the prop spin on start up until the inertia flywheel kicks in?

William :wavey:

Try this guage from MIlton's A-26. Add it to the end of the gauges in the panel.cfg file under section [Window00]

gaugexx=A26_engine_start!engine_start, 2,2,2,2

Yes, that slowed the prop, but sound does not syncronise. Will have to fiddle when I have some more free time.
