I want to give a big thank you to all the guys who worked so hard on getting this F-100 flying again in FSX. We've been having a blast flying it in formation -- great looking and great sounding aircraft. Very stable flight dynamics, keeps stable formation at 400+ MPH.

Thanks again guys. Will be working on some more paint jobs soon.

Cool tribute. What does the VC look like? Can we see some pics of that?

I reguaged mine with the Alphasim F-105 guages. The F-100's had so many different guage configs, I figured it couldn't hurt the purists out there.

Unfortunately the plane causes FSX to freeze and CTD on my machine so it's unflyable for me.

such a shame....

(and before you ask, yes it's the version I d/l'd right here from SOH)

I believe the problem you are having occurs when you deploy speed brakes. I had the same problem. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it has to do with a file called SpeedBrake_Sound.gau. I forget where the file is in the original install, but it seemed out of place to me so I dropped it into the panel folder, and also put a copy in the sounds folder with the extension changed to .wmv. The reason I did that is because it was labeled as a sound, and when I changed the extension it played as a sound file.

Perhaps one of the guys who worked on this could shed more light on this file. After doing this I haven't had any CTDs with the bird.

Cheers,

Chris

Actually I never even get to deploy the speed brake because it crashes as soon as it loads up.

Kinda hard to pinpoint, but it sounds like either a gauge or sound problem. I tend to not think it could be the gauges as no one else has had that problem that I remember, but an errant sound gauge could very well cause the crash.

Repaints are a bit daunting. I'm working on them bit by bit as I have the time. In the past I've only tweaked paints -- this will be my first full blown paint from scratch. I'm doing a very simple paint from the 22nd Squadron Bitburg Germany 1957.

The speedbrake sound was indeed causing problems so I removed it from the final version that is now in the download library.
The afterburner effect file fx_F100_Exh1.fx has an embedded sound that does a load bang at burner ignition but that is a default FSX/A file from the FSX root Sound folder: Exp_Gen02.wav

Finally, you need FSX/A, this portover will not work properly on FSX SP1/SP2.

Oh, yes it does and boy is it nice! Followed carefully the install instructions using only the FSX link above in this thread and in turn its link to the FS9 version for the sound. Searched for that problem sound/gauge and it was nowhere to be found. Sonic boom, smoke and AB effects all working properly in FSX Acceleration.

Really a superb job all around. Congrats and looking forward to those additional repaints.

Over the lifetime of its USAF service, a total of 889 F-100 aircraft were destroyed in accidents, involving the deaths of 324 pilots. The deadliest year for F-100 accidents was 1958, with 116 aircraft destroyed, and 47 pilots killed.

The Hun seems to enjoy a fairly decent reputation- and not one of being a grim "widowmaker" - notwithstanding these alarming statistics!

My father flew the F-100 on the aerobatic team in Europe for 4 years. He was also a Fighter Weapons' School IP at Luke in the F-100. He told me the Air Force as a whole was at one point loosing a squadron of aircraft very 3 months to accidents. Looks like that was probably 1958.
