Some 2012 race statistics

That just made my day !
biglol.gif

Do you wanna know what made my day? When we found out that Flightsim had picked the exact same airport for their entry into Australia but because we got there over 12 hours before they did, and our error was made evident they were able to alter their plan accordingly..

I've filled in the missing flights for the Team SOH pilots (people who were flying off-line) using the posted Duenna JPG data. Here's the summary of who flew for SOH. Other teams to follow...

Rgr that. Explains why I have no ok, since I only participated in one team flight, in which I was the wing.

All the flights' data is captured now, so...

I've extracted the headwind/tailwind data as well now, so we can see whose route got the most benefit from tail winds.

This table shows the baton flights only. "Wind gain" is the net distance each team was "blown" by the winds aloft, and it's interesting to see that Flightsim and Avsim are very similar here despite quite different routes. SOH got less benefit from tailwinds, but that was a feature of the polar routing.

Terrific stuff. Both interesting from a participant's point of view and valuable for the design of future events.

Thanks Martin.

Good work Martin..

:) I have the raw data but I didn't do the analysis you did.. I think next year I will take a couple days off before the race too.. I was planning routes while working this year... I work from home so thats a luxury I have but it was hard to concentrate on work while trying to find the most efficient route through the south pacific.. :)

Great data - I suggested we not turn back and hire lawyers (It is an estuary) but on google earth it does say "Island"

Argh!

Nice to see the data on the number of flights flown.
