Whoa, that's highly interesting stuff!
Newly discovered cfg switches... just by reading the hex codes! This guy is terrific.

Thanks for the HU!

Vora, Ive used some of the tweaks that were suggested and Im pretty happy with the results, game play is much smoother But I dont see any improvment in FPS, But Im still messing around with it.

Hm, I've had problems wih disappearing models and textures before (in high stress situations), but not lately. I blamed it solely on video card drivers (which explains why I haven't had problems lately).

So...to try or not to try...:kilroy:

Do or do not, their is no try..hmph..(Yoda is wise)

I tried the tweak and it did seem to do something for smoothness, however the

[Bufferpools]
UsePools=0

part of the tweak gave me momentary graphical spikes when panning around the a/c from outside.
Example was with the trees, their graphic whilst panning was stretched momentarily hundreds of feet into the air.

Otherwise a good tweak.

There are very specific cases whereby some of the suggestions may not apply. This is mostly due to hardware differences, as well as the use of some other add-ons that require their own, unique fsx.cfg settings.

Only the first two "undocumented" .cfg entries are applicable to virtually everyone...

I've measured and observed an increase not only in stability and graphics performance, but ~30% increase in average framerates as a result.

Well, I did it. Didn't fly yet though...

That tweak is explained in detail here:
http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=281538

As for your spikes, you overloaded your video card. It couldn't catch up with the data coming in from the CPU.
The post I've linked to explains this in details.

So...
If i go only with this tweak:

[Graphics]
HIGHMEMFIX=1
STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647

I´m good? What value i put in the second one with a 1gb gtx285?

Thanks!

Seems to work, I see an increase in framerates, and less stutters.
But I really need to reinstall my complete setup..... I think it's clogged.

Being something of a Nick N disciple (but not in a sad way) it's both interesting and slightly unsettling to see some of his ideas and assertions being questioned.
[Philosophy mode ON]
But in science, life and even FSX that's how we learn and grow - by asking questions, trying things out and seeing if they work better than what we had before. No idea should be so sacred that it can't be challenged in a reasoned way. If new evidence stands up to proper scientific scrutiny we should not be afraid to change our minds and move on.
[Philosophy mode OFF]
I like the note of caution Jesus sounds - he's not selling miracles or magic fixes, just a set of ideas that we can try or not as we like. Different ideas than Nick's, certainly, but better? Time and lots of testing will tell, and that's just the way it should be.

Hi All:

I just implemented this (..and changed nothing else; no, I have no BP statement either) in my FSX.Cfg file:

[Graphics]
HIGHMEMFIX=1
STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647

On this hastily built FSX test system (running on an HD3300 integrated graphics chip set) I am now able to able to fly FTX PNW at 1600 x 1200 x32 at 20 FPS with no micro-stutters, and without the prior occasional nagging slow ground texture resolution issues (these would display as water or striped textures on the ground in some land class texture polygon areas... mostly sloped hillsides). :jump:

This is definitely worth a try (as always, YMMV) ! :iidea:

BTW: I just had a fabulous flight from Diamond Point 2WA1 along the Hood Canal utility tower corridor all the way down to Emma Field KEWL in the COSMOS ULTRALIGHT BISON TRIKE that came with Emma Field 2004.

Believe it or not, this FS2002 GMAX aircraft actually works in FSX !

AVSIM has not yet attended to restoring this download, and it can otherwise be had via Flightsim.Com at:

Some conversion of textures, and some aliasing of sounds to a decent Rotax... and you're good to go !

FYI: When Juan Pablo Benlliure built this freeware model years ago, a certain "Mariano Benlliure" was credited as one of his Beta testers.

Juan Pablo Benlliure gave permisssion to LAGO for inclusion of his Trike with the Emma Field package, and for various mods to be done by other developers.

A LAGO "Ultralights" package was subsequently released with some additional outstanding aircraft... including amphibians.

The creator of that LAGO Ultralights package was a certain "MJPP Design - Mariano Benlliure"

http://secure.simmarket.com/lago-ultralights.phtml (not sure if simMarket still sells this, but if you own it and lost your install files, get it while you can !)

Interestingly, years later, the default FSX AirCreations Trike is credited to "MJPP Design" ;)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526949.aspx

Apparently ACES knew good modeling when they saw it ! :mixedsmi:

PS: The Cosmos Trike goes both faster and slower than the AirCreations Trike, so it is excellent for inspecting scenery

Decrease the FS "Environment" sounds slider, shift the VC down well below the cockpit floor, and it makes for an excellent "IMAX" experience like I had ! :d

Happy Flying ! :cool:

I've used this tweak. Reading the long detailed thread, most of which was over my head, it said that to use application controlled AA & AS and also lock VSync off, so that is what I have done in my ATI controller, The game does appear to be more stable, with less stutters, so I am happy. Locking the V Sync off has made no difference to it being locked on, so I will be sticking with this mod.

PC: I7 920 2.66Mhz
ATI 5850 1Gb
6Gb ram

The only difference I ever noticed with V-Sync locked on was the elimination of texture tearing over photo scenery, which I thought was a good thing. I never saw a frame rate hit in FSX or any other game even though (I think?) you're limiting FPS to the refresh rate of your monitor - mine refreshes at 60Hz so I never saw that as much of a problem. Still and all, Jesus/Bojote is making people think differently and challenge assumptions, which is a good thing.

Thanks Roger.
Since I'm looking to build a new rig, I think I will follow his graphic card suggestion.

Cheers, Rob

I'm in the middle of trying various options and the results so far are very promising. I have turned up autogen to max and over GEX/UTX terrain I'm getting 18-25 fps with complex aircraft. I have never been able to do that before!

An amazing difference being experienced here. Spending a few hours messing with the concept & main tweak in that post (after all, having spent dozens of hours trying to get my wee quad core & rig to run FSX smoothly, what is a few more hours?), for the very first time in 16 months of flying FSX this looks more promising than anything else hands down. Initial results are wonderful on my little Phenom X4 quad @ 2.2 Ghz, 5 GB DDR2 ram, nVidia 9500 GT 1 GB & a fat SATA 7200 rpm drive. Have never flown FSX so smoothly, all that remains for me is to find that special "sweet spot" of the video bandwidth multi for my particular system & this new .cfg entry. Most impressive.
.

One strange but useful benefit is the effect on port-overs. I still have Robert Sanderson's Boeing Stearman crop dusters (Fs2004) in my port-over folder although frame rates in my previous FsX set-up were always low (9-15 max in rural country) but now with frame rates set at 25 the Stearman is achieving 24/25 fps in similarly rural scenery.
