Something a little different....

Ferry_vO, that is what my first girl friend said when we first met. I don't know what it is but I will take one.

Great job Tim, looking forward to it.

I guess it's some kind of hovercraft? Great detail Tim and I'll fly (drive??) it and no mistaking:naturesm:

It's a Russian Tupolev-designed/manufactured craft, called the N 007, from the early 60's. It's powered by a 9-cylinder Vedenyev M14P radial aircraft engine, generating 365hp. Supposedly the craft's hull design creates a bit of ground effect beneath it, at roughly 50 mph or greater, allowing it to slide/skim over surfaces of water, marshes, snow, etc.

I don't think it's a hovercraft, more like an airboat...on steroids!

Edit: John beat me to it...lol.

Despite its looks, the prop blades aren't counter-rotating - the props are actually fixed like that, with the rear prop drafting the front blades to increase efficiency and make operation quieter.

Looking at the dashboard, it must be fun with all of the toggle switches and levers!

i remember seeing that go across the block at the barrett-jackson auction,( I did have to read the hemmings webpage to make sure i remembered right,,lol)..i think its pretty cool....thats the kind of thing ,if i had money to spare,id have in my toy box,and im the kind of guy who would use it...my folks best friends have Packards,,one is a 1937 model 180 roadster, only three survive, two are locked up in museums and dont get driven..Eds gets driven,,its show quality,,but he drives it

Wow! Well, that probably is one of the most unusual Tupolev designs out there.

Also, for the uninitiated, it's NOT called a Tupolev N007. That's just what the US owners registered it as.
It is a Tupolev A-3 Aerosledge/Aerosan, known in Russia as the A-3 "Hope" (or "Nadezhda").

Additionally, the specific example mentioned "N007" is the only known US example imported, out of 800 made.

Production run was from 1960's to 1980.
It was designed as a sled for travel on snow, although it works on water too apparently, judging by a single picture I found.

EDIT: Updated with further research. Pictures in a minute...
