If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

  • Server side Maintenance is done. We still have an update to the forum software to run but that one will have to wait for a better time.

Soon, Very, Very Soon

This looks like some excellent work and even though I do not play this at all, I can see how much work has gone into this, bravo to all you freeware developers !

Rising Sun FAQ and Known Issues

CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Frequently Asked Questions and Known Issues
Default Settings:
The default settings for Rising Sun are selection of the Pearl Theater and USA versus IJN spawn selection. These settings should be selected before adding any updates.

1. How does the auto-installer work.
Refer to the READ ME BEFORE INSTALLATION documents.
2. How do you change theaters?
Refer to the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Selector document for an explanation on how the swappers work.
3. Can I name the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun install something else, and have it work correctly?
Yes, refer to the installations instructions.
4. Do I need to install Mission Builder in the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun?
No, the auto-installer will install a mission builder into the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun.
5. Do I need to install the NEK?
No, the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun with an NEK that is configured just for the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun. Installing a previously released NEK will corrupt the one that was installed with the install package.
6. Can I install the 46th Design Group Scenery Package into the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun?
No, it was made for stock CFS3 and will not work with CFS3 PTO Rising Sun.
7. Can I install the Firepower Add on?
That is unknown, the installation of the Firepower add on was not tested, so the impact to the sim is not known.
8. I have installed the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Install program, but I can’t switch Theaters. What's wrong?
Is your CFS3 PTO Rising Sun directory path different from the default C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Rising Sun? If it is, you will need to refer to the detailed instructions in the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Theater Selector Readme to change the directory path entries in the selectors to match your computer's paths.
If you started the sim without changing the selectors to your computers install path, you have corrupted your Theater files. It is recommended that you uninstall the associated Theater files by manually deleting the existing theater file sets from your theater. Follow the instructions in the PTO RS Theater Files Restore Beta 1.0.rtf README on how to restore your Theater files.
9. Where are the Readmes?
The Readmes are located in the main directory folder CFS3 PTO Rising Sun READMEs.
10. My scenery looks funny. What's wrong?
When you installed the Install package did you verify that the ZX Zapper deleted the *.zx files in the Terrains and Terrains2 folders. Manually run the ZX Zapper and see if that corrects your scenery.
11. What happens if I exit out of a mission that is not in the next Theater I choose?
Nothing, the sim will revert to the first mission in the new Theater.
12. Are there special considerations in using the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Mission Builder?
Yes!
During the auto-install process, the Mission Builder will be installed in your main directory. Right click on the MB and open the Properties pull down tab. The default directory and target paths are C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Rising Sun. If your install path is different from the default, copy and paste your install path to the directory and target text windows.
The Mission Builder uses the stock CFS3 file name set, so each of the 7 CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Theaters don’t require special attention with regards to the Mission Builder. When switched, each of the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun Theaters will automatically be aligned with the Mission Builder.
Simply switch Theaters, exit PTO RS, and then initialize the Mission Builder, and you will be able to create missions when the MB splash screen appears.
13. What campaigns can I play? How do they work?
There are presently no campaigns for CFS3 PTO Rising Sun.
14. Can I use existing PTO_Solomons missions in CFS3 PTO Rising Sun?
NO! The maps, facilities, global layers, etc are entirely different in PTO Rising Sun.
15. My spawn selector doesn't work. I think my spawns are corrupt.
You can reinstall your spawns folder by following the instructions using the PTO RS Theater Files Restore Beta 1.0 README.rtf.

Airfield add on folders:
Within the individual airfield folders you will find g-max files, textures, and reference material. We encourage you to make improvements and share your work with the community.
PTO Rising Sun Backup Folder:
It is very highly recommended that you create a PTO RS BACKUP folder somewhere on you PC, but outside of the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun main game folder. This should be done immediately after installation, but before switching any theaters or selecting any spawns.
After you have created this BACKUP folder, simply copy and paste the following files and folders from your CFS3 PTO Rising Sun main game folder into the newly-created BACKUP folder:
All *_uires and uires folders
All *_missions and missions folders
global_layer folder
All *campaigns and campaigns folders
All *_facilities and facilities folders
All *_Terrains and Terrains folders
All *_Terrains2 and Terrains2 folders
All *_qclocations.xml and qclocations.xml files
All *_splash24b.bmp and splash24b.bmp files
All *_uisel.xml and uisel.xml files
All *_mapdata.xml and mapdata.xml files
All *_game.xml and game.xml files
All ^_cutscenes.xml and cutscenes.xml files
Test-Rising_Sun_Theater_Selector.bat (or a newer one)

Known Conditions or Issues:
Multiplayer:
MISMATCHING AIRCRAFT:
Bostons, A-20’s, Whitleys, and J2F Ducks are known to cause mismatch errors.

VISUAL ANOMALIES:
The flaps and landing gear do not show on several aircraft. This is a glitch with the actual models and can not be rectified.
Sometimes, pressing the "E" key before activating the flaps and/or landing function properly will make flaps and/or landing gear work normally.
WEAPONS NOT WORKING:
External ordinance, such as cannons on the night fighters, do not always work. They will appear in-game, but won’t fire. In most cases, testers reported they did not function at all, but in one MP game I witnessed it working. This will be investigated further.
Bombs and rockets all seem to function as they should, the problem seems to be limited to cannon loadouts.
Pilots’ Attributes Reduced To 1:
The attributes (vision, G-tolerance, and Max Health) of some pilots will be reduced to a value of 1 in online play, for host and guests both. Due to time constraints for this current release, we have not had time to check all pilots thoroughly online. For the next Update, we will either have the problem fixed, or we will provide a complete list of those pilots so affected. Again, we have determined that this only occurs in online play.
Host’s aircraft may not have label or appear on TAC Screen:
This only occurs only in online play, and does not always occur. It may be related to the Pilots’ Attributes listed above. We are still looking into this.
Buildings do not show on some airfields:
This is online only. The buildings on some airfields do not show for the Guests. The host can see them just fine. At this point in time, the only ones being confirmed as being seen online are the buildings on Luke Field in the Pearl Theater. We are still looking into this one as well. The problem may be fixed in the next Update.

Single play mode:
COCKPIT NOTES:
A lot of the planes have misaligned gun-sights, this is how they are supposed to be. If you find yourself in a plane and your tracer is misaligned with the gun sight, hit F6 to bring up the gun sight view, then when you’re finished flying, hit F6 again to take you back to your normal view.
WEAPONS PYLONS:
Several aircraft have weapons loadouts, but no pylons from which to hang them. This means that the weapon is not visible from the outside view until fired or released.
With the night fighter aircraft that employ upward firing cannon, you will need to configure your firing buttons to have one that only fires machine guns, and another that fires only cannon. This is the only way you can get the upward-firing guns to fire independently of the other guns.
IMPORTANT WEAPONS NOTICE:
DO NOT install the AvHistory weapons pack into your PTO RS install. If you do this, you will overwrite a lot of the new textures. Your PTO RS install has all of the AvHistory weapons included, along with many individual weapons created for specific aircraft.
Default Settings:
The default settings for Rising Sun are selection of the Pearl Theater and USA versus IJN spawn selection. These settings should be selected before adding any updates.
Mission Builder:
If you have installed the optional aircraft mole fix make sure to run BDP zapper BEFORE starting Mission Builder.
Quick Combat:
CFS3 is hardcoded to GMT. Pearl Harbor is 11 hours behind GMT.
All selections of Quick Combat are functional in the Pearl Theater of Rising Sun. Make sure to select the proper spawn selection to match the nationality of the combatant aircraft.
Quick Combat selections in Midway and Wake theaters are limited.
The remaining theaters will have quick combat functions when finalized.
Campaigns:
There is no campaign function in Rising Sun.
Bridges:
There are no bridges in RS at this time. No SDK discussion has been found to place them into the add-on, nor tool supplied by MS.
Midway:
Midway's location had to be shifted to be only in the western hemisphere.
Aircraft Mole Fix:
Will not work in XP Home Editions.
If you have installed the optional aircraft mole fix, you will need to run the Rising Sun BDP Zapper before starting the Rising Sun Mission Builder to remove the encrypted *.BDP files. The static aircraft will be re-installed next time you run the Rising Sun Theater selector.
BDP and ZX Zappers:
The zappers have been designed specifically for Rising Sun and should only be used in Rising Sun. Also, do not use these zappers from other add-ons. Older zappers do not have all the functions needed for Rising Sun.
Landclass and Terrains:
This is a beta release to the community. There is still a lot of work to be done. It is hoped that the community will make suggestions on improvements and create add-ons to be included in future updates.
