I have received eleven DVDs that contain all of the work done by Ed Wilson. A complete set of terrain source files will be copied and sent to Ted for his use in completeing the Italy scenery for the MAW update we intend to do. A second set will be sent to Bob for safekeeping. Aircraft source files will be delivered to Capt. Winters and Bravo4 and the large amount of source files for buildings, trees and other scenery will be uploaded to our internal FTP for use by the ACC team

Included with the source file DVDs was a memorial DVD slideshow set to music of the life of Ed Wilson. Jay is retrieving this file from our internal FTP and will be making it available as a video download on the Aussie server. We will also be sending the link to Irene,Eddie and Kristin so that they may share it with friends and extended family.

Best Regards,

Steve

That is fantastic news!!

Not only do we have something new to explore and make our sim even better, we also keep Ed's memory and his work alive through this. It would have been a waste to lose all that material. Excellent show!!

Interesting news. I was worried that a lot of stuff might get lost, the way it often does.

Wasn't there some mention of original MAW files being made available to the Desert Rats?

At last, in a way or another, Chris mission had a successful end.
Very good news, primarly for the fact that Ed Wilson's work will make him always alive in our community.
MAW is still alive and it will rock again.

Now perhaps we can turn off the lights for night opps in the PTO and expand the theatre to include everything from Peral Harbor to Japan. Well, that's my dream. Once that's done, I can make some amazing B-29 and P-51 opps.

I would hope so, they darn well deserve it! It was all their hard work over several years that gives you the toybox to work from. Always thought that Fox's effects were just fine, the best I had seen! I wonder,if Gerard were still alive, what he would say about HIS 109E when it starts, it will look like it has afterburners!! Same thing will happen with Mat's 110's, 190 and his 111, they are not jets!!!

After beta testing for them for a long while, why do the MAW effects have to change? What is wrong with the way Ed did Italy? (He told me he couldn't believe his eyes when the other "Rats" started adding in special scenery for Italy) he was proud as heck of what they did, so why change it? It would be a standing tribute to him to leave it alone!! No one ever complained about it, so what's the reason for the update to it?

That i agree with

Ed cracked the Scenery conundrum and no-one else yet living seems to know how. This seems to be the urgency. MAW 2 is adding aircraft and new missions to the magnificent original afaik.

Great News !!!.

:woot:

Brilliant !!!! :jump::friday:.

What stars there are around. My thanks to everyone who helped in this task and especially Eds family. So pleased his and others work is not lost. Roll on MAW--Solomans and Korean Skies. ( On-line hopefully. ) :applause::trophy::d:medals::guinness:

Don't know if it's just Ed's source file on those disks or the collected MAW library.
If the second is the case (likely, since Ed didn't do too many buildings for instance) keep in mind MAW is not public domain!
And yes, I'd agree with Scott, there is no need to reinvite the wheel as far as MAW work goes. By all due respect but I feel this modding for modding's sake by the guys who are now in charge in CFS3 world don't really have an idea about the work that has been involved and that there have been reasons to do things this way and not that way. It may come a point where some of us regret to have given permission to reuse our work.

On a sidenote, all those discussions about sourcefiles and their origin do not belong to public boards, we used to handle those things in private amongst trusted guys back then. :kilroy:

It was our intention to use the MAW terrain source files to complete Italy. Ed never got a chance to complete Italy and it is missing the bodies of water and a lot of other features. This work was to be done in conjunction with finishing up the last update and adding the rest of the aircraft and campaign. The completion of Italy has long been awaited by our Italian friends,

Few if any of us wanted to take on this huge additional workload but felt it should be done and the community wanted it.

I have now changed my mind about pursuing it and we will abandon the project.

I will destroy the DVDs containing any MAW material and we will retain only those that apply to Solomons and Korea.

Best Regards

Great show.

Hey STeve... Mathias... w/ all due respect ...being its the only game in town, isn't this decision just a bit hasty? (I'm refraining from displaying my shock any further at this time)

Mathias-- I'm SURE Ed would have wanted the SHARING to continue...

Now, if you are actually going to develop it into payware... GREAT

But even Inanimate objects don't like bein' stuck up on a SHELF... (I didn't while I wuz one)

Popsaka,

No, I think it is the right decison not to pursue a final update with MAW. There will never be another add on like it and in hind sight I think it should be preserved in it's original form even without the final corrections to the Italy scenery.

It would be like taking a classic piece of literature and rewriting it. All MAW files will be deleted.

The only things we should pursue with these source files is to fix the water in Korea and hold the Solomons terrain files for future addons to Solomons PTO.

One final note with regard to the DVDs, there could be some works of others on the DVDs that had been given to ED to work with, if any are found they will also be removed.

Lets move on,

Steve

So if a another gifted soul (programmer -which I ain't) comes along and is so inspired, he(she) would have to re-invent the wheel... and or be denied the help that Ed's work would provide???

Wait a minute WAIT A MINUTE ...I must be missing something here... Everybody's suddenly acting out of character...
...Its a big joke and its on me (and everyone else who was looking f'ward to a delightful learning experience in the MAW direction (still my favorite theater in CFS3)

please forgive me if I've over-waxed (and over-stepped... )(but then he waxes on w/ "I would've loved to have been a part of it... -sigh- ")

I hafta go run some errands before I start ta get really MAUDLIN!!! :p: (smiles everyone... smiles)
