Spanish Civil War 2013 - Capt Kurt

Kurt:
Working on updating Spanish Civil war campaign to your 2013 version: Have found a few problems:

1. The scenery does not load with any detail at all. I have followed all install directions re: Xavier's stuff and yours, but get nothing but smooth green outside the airbase area. (See snip-it example below)

2. I get an error loading the Bf109D with failure to initialize the aircraft. Checked date 'entered service', have put in a clean sound file and tried the advised .air/.dp (or *.cfg) files, but no joy.

3. Get nothing when I try to link to the required Netwings.org site for Blade's realistic effects collection. - as suggested by Xavier. Just a blank page presents.

4.The Dewoitine D372 requires Wep_RAF_pilot and another aircraft requires this plus the RAF_rear_gunner. No source/link for these is found in the directions and they are not included with aircraft file itself. I bet I have them somewhere in my library file of objects, but cannot find them.

5. The SCW_BR19-R will fire up, but not do a take-off roll.

6. In SCWR12 there is a vehicle shooting at the player's aircraft before it begins its take-off roll. I believe it is the 'veh_50_cal_aa_mount' object which has an allegiance set to 3 (German), but it is placed on the Republican Barajas airbase. I substituted another unarmed vehicle and things are fine.

7. I have a recurrent problem with FF and QC in that I get a failure to initialize database error message - I have the same problem with upgrades to the European campaigns. (Yes, I've redone the QC to conform to a few SCW aircraft.)

8. Advanced information does not give me any relevant maps etc., although the airbases.dat file is meticulously set.

I should mention that all of the above are working well in the older version of SCW that I still have. Trying mass substitutions from that version to the newer one for many of the main CFS2 folders (TEXTURE, OBJECT_DP, SCENEDB/Scenery/Texture, etc) did not correct the problems.

I s'pose I should also mention that I've been working with CFS2 since it began with CFS1 so I'm not a newbie fumbling around ineffectually. I do dig into things and try to do work-arounds, change stuff and make substitutions in code. I keep a large file of aircraft, sounds, objects etc to work with like most veteran CFS users. Not a master like you, but not a novice either. So I try not to bother people with these kind of things.

Thanks, Archive1 (Don C Pearson)

Hi Don[

I will try to look at this over the weekend when I can have time to dig into it.

I don't understand what is happening with your land textures. It almost looks like you don't have any land bitmaps in your CFS2/SceneDB/world/texture folder. Nothing in the campaigns should effect that. But try removing the mesh install and see if that works. You can also try copying all of the world/texture bitmaps to the CFS2/TEXTURE folder. :banghead:

Kurt:
Thanks for the reply. Please take your time, there's no emergency here. I'd rather you enjoy the Holidays and the run-up to them.
Meantime I'll look at the SCENEDB/world/texture .bmps
-=dcp=-

Kurt:
Made the transfer of all the world/texture bitmaps to the CFS2/TEXTURE folder and that cured the problem. All ground textures appear as they should. 'Course that made the TEXTURE folder over 1,300 bitmaps in size. That tells me that there are probably lots of unnecessary bitmaps in there. I'm going to play around with various TEXTURE folders and do the same thing to see if I can shrink it. It gets back to a recent forum piece (probably too long) that I uploaded about bloated files as we just add and add to already created, original CFS2 Pacific files, containing much that is not specific to the theater we are developing.
In any case, the SCW 2013 version ground texture problem is fixed.
Again I repeat (well, Don, if it's 'again' you don't have to say 'repeat'.)...anyway, take your time at this. I know it has been a long time since you put it together - quite nicely BTW - and you've moved on to other more interesting stuff.
Will monitor the thread as it moves forward.
Cheers,

Hi Don

Excellent that you got the terrain issue resolved. Here is what I can say about the remaining issues you have listed below.

2. I get an error loading the Bf109D with failure to initialize the aircraft. Checked date 'entered service', have put in a clean sound file and tried the advised .air/.dp (or *.cfg) files, but no joy. I think something might be corrupted in your file. May I suggest a fresh download of the model from SOH and try that? It works fine in my setup and I downloaded a new file and checked it - it worked too.

3. Get nothing when I try to link to the required Netwings.org site for Blade's realistic effects collection. - as suggested by Xavier. Just a blank page presents. I think you are loading the original campaign versions and not the updated versions with corrected/updated links. Netwings is long gone and not referenced in the current versions of the SCW campaign here at SOH. These effects are not absolutely required but they improve the visuals greatly. I don't think this is available anywhere any longer. I've attached a copy for you below.

The link for these pilots is noted in the downloads readme file. You need the Spit weapons pack (pilot for D-372)
http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/download/spitwep.zip

5. The SCW_BR19-R will fire up, but not do a take-off roll. The BR-19 is under powered. The current campaign files include new air files which give it enough boost in power to take off and fly properly

I checked that mission and there is no vehicle like that in this mission. Is this the correct mission you are referring too?

7. I have a recurrent problem with FF and QC in that I get a failure to initialize database error message - I have the same problem with upgrades to the European campaigns. (Yes, I've redone the QC to conform to a few SCW aircraft.) I don't think this is an issue with the campaigns. Normally what causes this is when the maximum number of combined aircraft, ships and dp file in the OBJECTS_DP folder are exceeded. Try deleting a number of unused dp files and/or unused aircraft and see if that resolves the problem.

8. Advanced information does not give me any relevant maps etc., although the airbases.dat file is meticulously set. I am running on a dedicated XP rig for my CFS2 games. The map previews are working fine on mine. I have not worked with WIN7, 8 or 10 but from what has been posted here, the preview panes may not work. What operating system are you using?

Kurt:
Thank you...lotsa stuff here to work my way through. Will do so and get back to you as things progress.
1.First is to look up absolutely latest "Spanish Civil War 2013" version - I thought I was using the latest, but
will check back through the SOH/CFS2/Campaigns pages.
2.I knew I had the RAF_pilot etc somewhere - I do have the Spitwep.zip file in my Weapons library, but did not
know that was the source of the RAF_pilot image(s).
3.The D372 - I did switch the .air files for those given for it in the version of the campaign I was using..didn't seem
to help, so I went back to the original. I may just have been impatient for a "slow roller" to wake up and get moving -again will check for 'most current' campaign file.
4.FF/QC - have been over this in another thread with several folks. In that attempt stripped everything way down to skeleton size (aircraft to about 60,
ships to about 65, objects to about 900, deleted all 'filelists', deleted unused INDEX files, edited down the QC file, all for naught. Nobody
seems to have an answer. FF and QC are not used much by me (maybe FF to test aircraft) so it's not a major problem...just irritating.
5.Op system = Win 7 (had real problems with Win 10 so went back to Win 7. Was happy with XP, but it could not handle the advanced aircraft and very
dense scenery I use with FSX, so I had to step away. Alas...miss it.
6.I'll check the SCWR mission and the .50 cal. May have the wrong mission.
7.Will download a fresh copy of the Bf109D as you suggest - hadn't thought of that.

"3. Get nothing when I try to link to the required Netwings.org site for Blade's realistic effects collection. - as suggested by Xavier. Just a blank page presents. Yikes. I looked at my message and what a formatting mess. Have to do better at remembering this is not a Word document and I need to leave out returns, diacritical marks and even colors. At least until I learn to use them.

Sorry for the confusing reply.

Hi Archive1,
Once you have the textures in the TEXTURE folder you can delete the ones in the WORLD/texture folder.
This saves some space.

Kurt: Let me try my answer to you again after my last mess.

1. I am using Def of Republic, new version, Feb 15th and Legion Condor, new version, Apr 13 - both 2013

2. The shooting episode on takeoff is in SCWR 12, airbase Barajas - I changed the vehicle type to veh_duce_half to replace the veh_50_cal_aa_mount that is cited. Tried this again and was still fired at during rollout. Also I get a message "can't find barracks1" here and in other missions - do not see barracks1 as an object in the mission code. Is it coded into the airbase description via Mission Builder?

3. Reloaded the SCW Bf109d and get the same failure to initialize message. Will sub the Bf109B model instead. It does not seem to have the same problem and is accurate enough for me.

4.Dewoitine/RAF_pilot and rear_gunner issues: I had installed the Spitwep stuff earlier, it turns out. But that loads RAF_pilot only. Not a wep_raf_pilot. When I go to the do-17e aircraft (which has the same problem) and change the dp file to the following: [PAYLOAD.0] mount.11=raf_pilot, 1, -1 - the pilot figure appears in the otherwise empty cockpit but sits too low (that can be adjusted of course), but raf_ rear_gunner of course does not appear since there is no rear_gunner loaded from the Spitwep zip file. The same dp raf_pilot problem exists for the Dewoitine D372.

5. I'm using Win 7 - had great problems with Win 10 and went back to Win 7. Miss Win XP, but it could not handle the highly detailed aircraft and very high detailed scenery I use in FSX, so gave the computer to my son and built a new one with better graphics and processor.

My apologies for the messed up message the last time.

Oh, I think you did mention in your reply a link was included to Blade's Realistic Effects collection v 2.0 that was referenced to the broken Netwings site (no longer in existence), but I did not see said link. Maybe I missed it.

Is it coded into the airbase description via Mission Builder?? I checked the mission again and there is no veh_50_cal_aa_mount at the air base. That is the stock .50 cal antiaircraft machine gun. They are only located at the target area. The only thing on the air base is the camion Fiat and parked aircraft.

The Barracks1 is something Xavier had placed in his airbases and I could never find it. I worked around it by using a different barracks bgl and renaming it. That is included in the Def of Rep package but it sounds like it isn't working for you. Try the one attached below.

3. Reloaded the SCW Bf109d and get the same failure to initialize message. Will sub the Bf109B model instead. It does not seem to have the same problem and is accurate enough for me. Very strange, I can't recreate the problem.

Hmm try the attached zip and see if it solves the issue.

I hope this resolves everything for you.

Kurt:
I feel that I'm tying you up too much with this...I don't want to distract from your great creative stuff (nice Macchi 202 BTW)

I'll answer your last then we can break for Christmas, if you agree.

I still get fired upon in SCWR 12 by some vehicle moving slowly along the distant flight line even when I change the allegiance of the veh_50_cal...so it cannot be that... and when I insert an entirely different vehicle. Here's part of what I have in the mission program for SCW12.

From mission SCWR 12 In my version. Which is the latest version as far as I know.

Show me what your country config file says please.

Although it says veh_50_cal_aa_mount I assure you it is the stock 50 cal machine gun AA. Its not a vehicle at all - anothe M$oft glitch. It can't be firing at you, it is only in the target area. Someting else is going on.

Kurt:
Here 'tis...

We're working up to having about 10-11 kids and grandkids to dinner Sunday as it the long standing custom here. My wife and I are just over 80 y/o so the Holiday tradition is long-standing.

So let me extend to you and to your family, however large or small, near or far away, a fine Christmas and an humane, rewarding and healthy coming year.

I'll check in again 'tween Christmas and New Years. However, after Dec 27th we will be at a small vacation place we have on an island in south Puget Sound (yeah, I'm south of Seattle) and so I'll not have access to this program we are working on until we return.. I will have Internet but cannot answer stuff about this campaign. As I worked on it last night I found some other problems with the late missions. But we can address those later, if you want to.

I greatly appreciate your replies and the superb material you have contributed to the flight sim community. It is certainly greatly in debt to you and many others for improving the experience and the overall quality of the flight sim world.

Cordially, -=dcp=-

Bingo!

Your country.cfg file alliance list reads

[alliance.0]
name=Allies
country.0=1
country.1=3

[alliance.1]
name=Axis
country.0=2
country.1=4

That's the problem. The Allies and Axis alliances are not defined beyond Japan number 4. The Camion Fiat - which has a USA nationality number 3 in the mission (yeah, lazy on my part - I missed that) - sees anything that does not have either a 1 or 3 country assigned to it as an enemy and fires on it. The Polikarpov of course has number 18, Republican Spain assigned to it.

Your alliance list should read:

[alliance.0]
name=Allies
country.0=1
country.1=3
country.2=5
country.2=7
country.4=9
country.5=10
country.6=11
country.7=13
country.8=14
country.9=17
country.10=18

[alliance.1]
name=Axis
country.0=2
country.1=4
country.2=6
country.2=8
country.4=12
country.5=15
country.6=3
country.7=16
country.8=19

Add this to your country.cfg file and the issue will disappear. This is pretty much the standard alliance grouping and it allows all of the nationalities in this .cfg file to relate properly to each other.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, too. My wife and I are on assignment in Hawaii for a couple of years and will be celebrating in sunny 75 degree weather. Just doesn't seem right for Christmas compared to Colorado which is home. I know, boo, hoo, hoo. :sorrow: LOL

Kurt:
Thanks I'll make the change. I note a duplication though: Allies country.1=3 and Axis country.6=3 I can sort it out.

I just sent you a PM, by the way.

Archive1

You're right, not sure how that snuck in there. The Axis sequence should be:

name=Axis
country.0=2
country.1=4
country.2=6
country.2=8
country.4=12
country.5=15
country.6=16
country.7=19

There is no country.8

I'll respond to your PM after work tomorrow.
