Any Intrest in the Spanish Civil War?
I love flying the Spanish Civil War (SCW) in CFS2 because it gives you the opportunity to fly aircraft that were, in my opinion, the best true dogfighters yet were too obsolete to fly in WWII. Yes, I know there are exceptions but I love dog-fighting in those last few biplane fighters that came off the assembly line during the 1930s only to be labelled "for training purposes only". I also know it would be cheating to fly them in WWI because some had over 900hp.
That being the case, a few months ago I started making a new SCW install from scratch. I am aware of five campaigns to use in this install:
Defense of the Republic, Legion Condor, Tinker, Morato, and Stepanov. I have flown them all in the past and cherish each one. If there are any others please let me know.
I am not quite ready to update any of these campaigns and am not sure I ever will be. However, I am trying to put together a few "goodies" that will make flying these campaigns more fun. They also give the simmer, who has not really emerged themselves in the art of navigation, three options to make flying these campaigns, without watching the green line and warping all the time, easier.
First, I am putting all of the airbases in the airbases.dat files, including those from MR's SCW scenery and all of the above named campaigns, into one comprehensive airbases.dat file.
Second, I will copy the contents of this file into a text file, delete everything except the airbase name, latitude, longitude, altitude, and heading. I will also put these in alphabetical order so a pilot can find the airbase he wants easily. When you start the sim and copy and paste these airbases into aircraft/kneeboard/notes you will always have the headings of SCW destinations at your disposal. You can use your compass or punch the longitude and latitude into an older GPS gauge called "Cfsgps."
Finally, I intend to use GPS100A to create a gauge,or gauges, that contains all of the airbases in the above campaigns (and maybe a few other important waypoints needed for strafing and bombing missions).
When completed, would anyone else be interested in these files? If so, I'll upload them after they have been tested.
I will also be testing alternative aircraft for these campaigns to see if I can increase frame rates while improving the looks and flight characteristics of the aircraft involved. But, that's all in the future. Please speak up if you are interested in the SCW or have any ideas.
