Spring Snow Storm

Lost in Texas
Here in the Texas Panhandle we did not have much snow this last winter but the snow storm that hit us late Thursday night and all day and night Friday sure mad up for it. Here are some pics.

That's pretty LJ.... pretty good that it's there and not here. ;) Really tho, it is pretty.

I've driven thru enough snow out there in the Texas Panhandle to last me a lifetime back in 88 I believe. That also includes Missouri, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona too. 3 days of traveling from east of St. Louis out thru to Kingman, AZ did me in for a long time. I never want to see a storm like that again. When you guys get a major snow storm out there it can down right scarry. Tho it was kinda nice I was one of the few that was still running and didn't have to worry about the traffic. I've never seen so many cars and trucks off the road as I did on that trip to LA.
 
We got lucky on this one and it only dropped a few inches here in the OKC area.

As I told my wife: ITS GLOBAL WARMING!!!! :costumes::costumes:
 
Well, I spent the day clearing 20 inches of snow and snow pellets from my driveway and lane!!!!......:faint: We had drifts 5 feet tall also. I also helped the neighbors clear their driveways.

This was the heaviest and wettest snow I've every seen. I have some pictures but I'm too tired to load them tonight. Our daughter and son-in-law were in Vegas this week for "spring break" and their plane arrived in Wichita @ 12:30 am this morning (Saturday) in the blizzard. I had hoped they would have cancelled the flight when they were in Phoenix (I'd have sent them to Bill's (Lionheart) home!!!.....hehe). They arrived home @ 4am and their car got stuck four times on the way home, the last time they were only 3 houses down from their home. The drive from Wichita to Hutch normally takes only an hour.

Looks like we won't have Sand Hill Plums this year; they and the pear trees were in full bloom.

I hope to be able to load the pictures tomorrow morning, almost all church services have been cancelled.

I know, this isn't anything like the snow up in Canada!!!......but for around here it's a pretty major deal.

That storm just arrived in Chicago also. We aren't going to get that much accumulation though. Pictures are from this morning and last week when the temps were close to 70.
 
I should have said the snow just arrived. The storm system got here early yesterday afternoon and dumped a bunch of rain and wind. Transload's online session last night went from Tulsa to Milwaukee. Arriving in Milwaukee we were greeted with this....
 
Wiens, that's a major storm for anywhere... Canada and the Northeast included. ;) We used to see storms like that in Northern NY back in the 50s thru the early 80s. The weather cycle has changed but it'll be back someday for them up there.

I even remember some pretty good storms here in the Mid Atlantic states back when I was hauling cars for GM. 20 to 30 inches wasn't uncommon.
 
We had snow and freezing rain here last (St. Louis area) night. A big tree branch fell off my tree! Well, not too big, but big enough. Drove to the hardware store this morning and saw two cars slid off the road into the ditch. And I was going to mow the grass for the first time this year today! Darn the bad luck!

Some years ago I remember when a freak, heavy snow storm hit the Chicago area in the early part of May. Because most of the trees had already put out leaves,....a lot of branches, limbs, and trees came down. A real mess.

I grew up in Massena, NY, and I don't miss it. :costumes: And back then Massena was the coldest spot in the nation.... many many times, and got beaucoup inches of snow too. Knowing what Chicago's winters are like, I surely wouldn't miss it.... I've been there too. ;)
 
Woke up to 6-8 inches here in Illinois near the Wisconsin border...it's the heavy wet stuff, too.

Sky cleared off in the later part of the afternoon and the sun came out...supposed to be up in the 50's by mid-week so it'll be gone soon enough.

I don't think Winter is done with us yet....:whistle:
