Spruance DD's and variants

Landing a CTOL fighter on a Spruace... suppose thats one way to go. Would love to see the artwork, also a proud owner of the Razbam bird so if its on the slipway :jump:

Outstanding Destroyers

I was very excited to find this package. I still remember when Oldendorf was last in San Diego.

I think some of my friends referred to her as "Old and Broke"...

Most of the formal SCS designs were variations of the design that became the Principe de asturias, which is in hull form and machinery descended from the Spru's . I'd thought I'd saved the jpeg, and I can't find the thing now. Similar to the Ghiradella proposal, with the gun and ASROC removed in favor of a longer flightdeck forward, and my eyeball says it looks a bit longer and beamier, about 600x60. I'm thinking I'll just clear the foredeck and build forward, and move the lift aft re Tarawa/R-11 .
Thes studies were really cool looking too...View attachment 4777
Anyways. Into the paint barn and a quick spin in the sim, with luck, the beta may be available here in a couple of hours...
Greyeagle is having a helluva time getting the ships to show up. I've just downloaded the beta zip to have a looksee. Any one else crapping out?

Its allright for an alpha rollout. I see a few things need fixing, as always, but not too bad:untroubled:
Presenting USS CVE-128 Ernest.E Evans class. Not sure how that fits into naming-numbering conventions, CVE128 is the next number in sequence after the last Commencement Bay CVE, and if you don't know the story of Ernest Evans at the Battle off Samar, look into that. Appropriate for a escort carrier class I think. The design was never more than a 'back of the envelope' study by Cmdr. Ghirdella,USN; first appearing in 1978 in Proceedings, the study sparked considerable interest in naval circles.

OK, I down loaded the Spruance test package, I noted no show stoppers. In this zip are replacement simconfig files that correct the typos and transpositions, just replace the originals and update your AICarriers2 config. I also put in a AICarriers2 conf.d file with all the spru, Kidds, Hayler and Evans, just drop into your AICarriers conf.d folder. Its straight from my install, so its all been flown in sim, and works fine on this end, hopefully that'll resolve any problems. Crosses fingers.

Wups! Good catch. Noted for correction. I'd better check the textures and see if I got the hull numbers on the right ships!

So what is the deal? Will there be a corrected Spruance file or is the current file the latest and greatest file?

Thanks

Really interesting information. I knew that the "Príncipe de Asturias" of the Spanish Armada (and later the Thai carrier Chakri Naurebet) was designed on the basis of a USN design for a small carrier, the Sea Control Ship (SCS). What I did not know is that the basis for the SCS was the Spruance class. Could you give me more info about that?

Several years ago Ranchotex asked me to make some changes in my Principe de Asturias to publish the "what if" model of the sea control ship. This was the result:

You've got to release that one. XFV-12's! Cool, even if the actual aircraft was a sack of door knobs!

Miss Quoth the craven, Neversmores!

I took out my install, I put in the DL from here with the noted corrections. It ran , things showed up .
There seemed to be a wee bit of confusion judging by the deleted post. There are 3 spruance versions with the test DL, yes? 3 separate ship versions, each in its own folder, with its own sim config. As noted above, the Air capable Spruance file has a single ship, effects file, and corrected sim configs duly designated for observed mistakes, in particular texture entries and transpositions, and an extra '9' in one ships hull numbers. Unzip the simconfig zips, and drag and drop the replacement simconfigs to the appropriate ship folders. Each is clearly marked. There is a new AICarriers conf.d file for all the spruances to date. It has been tested in sim, with no observed discrepancies, and copied directly from my AICarriers install. Drag and drop to wherever/ AICarriers/conf.d and the ships should be there. So far, from the observed reporting, things seem to be working except for yours, and I do not know why. Again; the 2 common failure modes for ships not showing up in a working AICarriers install are:
A)Crash to desk top. This is caused by problems in the model folder, either a corrupted MDL file(rare) or most common; a mistake in the model config file, IE: spelling, miss naming, or a miss-named model folder, or a miss named model entry in the sim config.
B) The fail to generate model message: This is caused by a missing texture file, a miss-named texture file, a wrong texture entry in the sim config,or a syntax mistake in the AICarriers config file; which can be spelling, missnumbering, or a space where there should not be a space, usually between the name of the object and the comma.

The model showing up all black is , of course, a texture problem, either a corrupt texture file, a incorrectly sized texture;IE: not a power of 2, or a mistake in the texture file.
I have also noted from time to time in a multi- texure installation; you know, texture.1, texture.2 with a texture config pointing at a master texture folder; that if the master texture folder is simply left as 'texture', AICarriers does not like it, and will not spawn. Renaming master texture folder as 'texture.shared' and adjusting the texture config files will usually eliminate the problem.
And thats all I know about that. Hope it all helps, 'cause thats all I got!
