Standby for new (9th FS) mission orders

Skylark alerted me to some problems with the 9th FS missions in the second tour out of Dobodura. I checked and somehow a number of the .dyn files got scrambled in the latest upload. I can't figure out the cause. Some objects went missing, one file got renumbered, etc. No doubt it is this operator's error. :173go1:

Regardless, I think I have addressed them and got the missions working right again. For those of you who have already downloaded the campaign, here are the fixed files to replace the wonky ones.View attachment 21212 View attachment 21211

I have uploaded a whole new campaign self loading zip so the correct campaign will be avilable for downloads from this date on.

PLEASE - if anyone finds a problem flying any other missions, please let me know so I can correct the problems?

Maybe another problem?

I have flown a mission in the third tour 5 times now, without being able to finish. It is the 3rd tour, mission 19. May 1944. I attack the jap fighters, and usually shooting all down, then I am asked if I want to press X to go on to next action moment, but no matter if I do that or keep flying, 5 seconds later I get a CTD. Once I ignored the japs and just kept flying, but the same happened again. Anyone with a clue to get on with this? I have tried to switch off everything but the game too, but still the same ****. Sad, because this is a wonderfull and well built campaign. Despite the trouble I get with this mission, I still love the start-up scenery, with a dump of wrecked Jap planes to the left of the runway. Wonderful scenery indeed.

Hi Finn,

I'm glad you are enjoying the campaign and thank you for the compliment.

I can't reproduce what is happening to you. I flew it 3 times to be sure and it works fine. On the off chance that something in your mission file is corrupted, I am attaching the mission files I just flew here. Try replacing yours with these and see if it makes any difference.

Good try, but no success

Thanks Captain Kurt for your effort. I installed the files, took off, and this time i CTD'ed in the middle of the fight, so at least there was something new. BTW there is another thing: It seems that I can only drop one external tank: After dropping number 1 tank nothing happens when I try to get rid of number two - but seen from an external view it is still present. I think I will just have to skip this mission, if no other has the same problem - then clearly it is only on my rig.

Hi Finn,

The dp is set up to allow a bomb on one mount and a tank on the other (historically correct). In CFS2 though, to drop both tanks you will need to cycle one as a bomb and drop it, and cycle the other mount as a drop tank and use the drop tank command key.

I'm guessing the problem is something you have set up on your installation, but let's see if anyone else reports the same thing.

Finn,

Which P-38 has the drop tank Problem? I had the same problem and corrected it but forgot which P-38 it was. It's just a DP fix.

It's the P-38-5-Lo (an extremely nice airplane both to fly and to look at)

Found the reason for crash to desktop

Hi all.
Now I found the reason why I got a CTD during the mission mentioned above: I am too triggerhappy! I noted the Jap planes on the ground and attacked them immidiately already during the bombing attack - and that caused the crash. If I stayed diciplined in the formation all the way to the waypoint, and let those jap fighters get into the air to attack us at height, I found it possible to fullfill the mission. Thus the only flaw in this mission is my impatience. Try for yourselves: Take a dive during the approach, there are the jap fighters on the ground - you may be able to take out one or two before they get into the air. Then you take out the rest, and THEN you get a CTD. But the reason is very simply, that the mission is not designed to be flown like that, so I am the real sinner in this. Sorry Captain Kurt, I did not follow your orders, please do not press charges against me.

That's an odd one Finn. I've used that same hit-'em-on-the-runway tactic countless times with no adverse consequences when playing the stock USN camp and other addons. When leading a strike package against an enemy base where i know live interceptors will be spawning on the runway as soon as we enter their airspace, i initiate my attack by diving full tilt ahead of the rest of my package to strafe the Zekes and Oscars before or just as their takeoff trigger is activated by the close presence of enemy planes.

If i destroy the leading interceptors on the strip, it stuffs the rest of their flight right there on the runway for the rest of our time on target. AI aren't programmed to steer around each other on the ground, so they either just sit there or collide with each other trying to go through the mess i've made. Never had a single CTD result from doing this....
