It is indeed a tough bird and it renders minor damage effects in the way of smoke and fire. If you want to see more effects however replace everything between the last "Damage Boxes" tag and the first "Effects" tag with the following lines and you will get quite a bit more flames and smoke when shooting the Tiger down:

I know the Tigercat is tough, maybe too tough, I'm not sure. I have no idea how much damage each system should realistically take. I simply compromised with some of the numbers of the Grumman F6F Hellcat, another tough Grumman bird! CFS3 seems to ignore damage emmitters for some of the custom systems of the aircraft as I have them. The systems are all there in the .xdp and the aircraft visual model has damage emmitters built in for each system but CFS3 only uses the default system ID's to display damage it seems. The custom systems break but they show no visual damage via the emmitters. I believe there are workarounds for this though and I've looked at some of the custom aircraft from the new ETO/PTO/MAW packages and I can see how they managed to do it.

Just FYI about the systems in the Tigercat:

The F7F-3 has three self-sealing fuel tanks all located in the fuselage. The auxiliary tank in the nose just forward of the cockpit, the reserve tank just aft of the cockpit, and the main tank just aft of the reserve tank. There are no fuel tanks in the wings. There are two non-self-sealing oil resivours. Each one is behind each engine on the necelle forward from the trailing edges of the wings (you can see two holes about where they are located on the textures). The oil reservoirs also have small armor plates protecting them. The cockpit tub is surrounded by armor plates and bullet resistant glass. In addition there are more armor plates between the main and reserve fuel tanks giving even more protection. There are also some bullet deflection plates on top of the instrument panel. Finally, the main hydraulics system is located just forward of the reserve fuel tank under the cockpit tub. I got the impression from all my research that the Tigercat was built for maximum survivability!
 
Greg please don't think I was picking your model apart, it is one of the best out there. I am not a modeller and I don't understand nodes, damage boxes, mapping, etc as you builders do. I have however learned a few ways to manipulate CFS3 effects and I just wanted to make a more dramatic kill. Historically speaking I have also read that the Tigercat was built like a tank and very resistant to damage. I think you were dead on but some exaggeration of effects is not necessarily a bad thing.

I posted an update to the damage system on the Tigercat thread with new damage effects and systems to replace the current ones found in the .xdp if you want to check it out. It will give you the damage effects you've been looking for!

Just mentioned this on the other thread. I've tried taking it apart with my La-9/11s, and it is VERY tough. I'd expected a burst from 4 NS-23s to tear it to bits - most other aircraft explode when hit squarely. I don't know the real Tigercat enough to say anything other than that it does seem very tough...
 
Just to let you guys know.

I flew for an hour using the Tigercat against some pesky Ju-87's. They tore at me ceaselessly. I notices some of the rounds hitting the fuselage were quite large. Good shots maybe?

Anyhow, I love this bird. This is the only Americano I have in my hanger (other than the B-24) that takes heavy damage. Im really SCARED to have this come at me if Im flying a 109. (Sorry Nigel) But it seems as if even the Rheinmetal Borsig can't penetrate the fuel tanks and light it ablaze. I saw what one rapid burst did to my Ju-87 B. Poor Devils. I think I saw one Chute in the flypast. Dont think I saw another.

Also, it does well on crash landings. Im still attempting a wheels up landing to test her out fully before Teds Heinkel arrives. Overall, one TOUGH Americano.
