Stolen F104 Starfighter!

Here it is:

It's not really a good model (About 1:2 scale) but it somewhat resembles a Starfighter. The museum is located along a road just north of the airbase and I guess it would be most likely if it was lifted onto a truck with a crane directly from the road. I doubt many cars drive there in the middle of the night anyway.

And even though it's not a real aircraft I do hope they'll get it back!

Here's the location in Google maps : http://maps.google.nl/?ll=52.061146...d=y3BV594Fg7I2Cufm44BonA&cbp=12,270.9,,0,6.51

The building might look like an old Dutch farm, but it was part of ther former Luftwaffe Fliegerhorst Deelen. The walls are quite thick and the blinds are made of steel and weigh about 150 pounds each! After the war it was used as a mess for the Dutch airforce.

Do you know what metal it was made from and whether there's any scrap value to it?

Re: Same

It's just something no one has. Or they did'nt have anything else to do. Idle hands and all that. :icon_lol:

The museum is convinced it will be returned as the person(s) who took it left a note with the nessage "Fly away once in a while, see you next year". Personally I'm think it will appear somewhere in a silly New Years joke. There is a group in the north of the Netherlands which is famous for jokes like this and they always return whatever they take immediately after New Year (and normally in perfect shape).

As it is a steel model, I don't think the value as scrap metal is worth the effort.

As Ferry already mentioned the museum is located at a very remote location, with all the news about the disappearance of this model, the museum has received more free advertising than it would ever have been able to pay!

Cheers,
Huub
