shouldnt gorund gunners cease fire when a friendly aircraft is nearby? I hate it when I'm in a middle of a dogfight and my own gunners shoot me! another time I was chasing down someone but the enemy flak gunner got him and stole my kill! :banghead::banghead:
 
read any WW2 bio..............flak gunners cut loose at every plane that showed up over their stations......attack/recognition times were so tiny....try Pierre Closterman's book..."The Big Show" for a riveting account of surviving against impossible odds....including flak situations like yours
 
In 1940 the CO at Tangmere pleaded with the local AA defences to stop shooting at his aircraft. Flak was a real threat to friend and foe.
 
Friendly Flak

One of the most famous episode of friendly flak kills unfortunately concerned one of the best italian military figure the Lybian Governator Italo Balbo shot down in his SM79 by the Tobruk italian flak at the beginning of the war.
IIRC he was returning to Tobruk from Rome and he arrived in sight of the city after it was attacked by RAF Blenheim and italian gunners thinking his plane was part of a second wave of attackers shot him down.

hey I have this book, I bought it like 2 years ago with a bunch of other war books for like a dollar at a library sale though I haven't gotten around to read it but I will
 
p..........it's a stunner......easily one of the best....makes you aware of how impossible it was to survive the war in a fighter plane in WW2 Europe let lone a mere 17 hrs in WW1
