SU 27 Crash (Air Show in Poland)

Darn shame. And it looked like a nice air show day at Radom despite the clouds. RIP Su-27 guys. :frown:

From one video, it appears to have stalled out while upside down. He must not have had enough G's to hold the fuel to the bottom of the fuel cells. When it came out of the loop, the sound went from the turbines. Also, at one point, before the loop, while pulling up, you can see a puff of smoke that occurs out the top rear of the jet.

Did the pilots eject ok?

stayed in to aim clear of housing so the story says... if that is the case those pilots deserve every medal going, if they'd have hit civilian populus well.... speaks for itself, but staying on to get it clear of the populous, thats selfless, putting others before yourself, either way lets declare a toast to a selfless crew :icon29:

I've read somewhere that they tend to override the G-force limit button on the stick during these demonstrations. Seems like a few pilots overestimated their abilities and that of their aircraft and simply pushed the aircraft too hard and into a situation not even a Flanker can recover from. The footage reminds me a lot of the Lvev crash that killed 80+ spectators a few years back.

Surely one of them could have ejected safely, though? RIP to the crew.

This is an all-too familiar sight, unfortunately.
What's the score now?
You'd think someone would be applying themselves to the problem of the Su-27 crashing at airshows.

The error chain most likely started with too low of an altitude for the intended manuever, proceeded to "oops", and followed by an "oh sh*t". Whatever the language was, the sentiments are always the same.

Yup, it always seems to come down to "pilot error" about 80% of the time...

sad to see such a beautiful machine and people get destroyed.

looks like the pilots thought they could pull out so thus didn't eject. You can see the plane just starting to angle up a bit (but still stalling) before going into the trees. They had about 2 seconds to decide their fate....hard to make the right call in such short time...RIP

HD version. And includes plane taxiing around...

That was a good vid. At the risk of being a monday morning quarterback, I would say the guy just F'd up...but hey, nobody's perfect. Both engines were producing smoke as he rolled level for the pull-up, but the high AOA he put in wasn't arresting the downward flight vector. The plane didn't have the energy to finish what the pilot started at that altitude.

Sukhois = super manouverable but prone to pilot over-doing things (over-riding AoA and G-Limit), and great vid, shame we had to lose another sukhoi and another fine crew :frown:
