SU4 Beta Preview Released (Xbox Insiders)

Bomber_12th

SOH-CM-2025
The beta preview of SU4 (1.6.3.0) for MSFS 2024 was made available today through the Xbox Insiders program. I had about fifteen minutes in the sim tonight, after installing the SU4 beta, and a few things I've noticed right away include a larger variety of and more detailed power line poles and towers, contrails from high altitude live traffic, and the photogrammetry scenery looks proper again/as it should (no more patterns of squares as came about with SU3).

Here are the release notes: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/...6-3-0-release-notes-september-8th-2025/737331

Other than the airplane, this is fully stock MSFS 2024 SU4 in these screenshots. Note the variety of different power line towers and poles in the first two shots.

After the clusterfrack of early SU3 betas (like when they broke backward compatibility for a week) I opted out, figuring I'd give SU4 a little time to bake before rejoining.

Improved photogrammetry sounds good. I have Mamu's powerlines so guessing the improvements built in wouldn't affect me either way.

Here's the full changelog:

A few new features, such as improved flight models for the C172 and Extra 300, and the monitor-mirrored VR display now just being a single cropped image instead of the split eye view. But a zillion fixes -- I'll watch the initial response and likely opt in.

EDIT: Nope, the mouse is broken in VR. Sticking with SU3 for a few revs, I guess.

During the SU3 Beta, I had trouble with their installations several times, which calmed me a little.
I hope things will be better managed for this beta but I also prefer to wait a few days before deciding to try it.

Plenty of visual clarity & sharpness in those shots.
Are you running Graphics on Ultra settings?
My PC is such that I can only run a Medium/High mix of Graphics settings & that 2nd to last shot of yours, flying over the town, would have all the building edges slightly blurred.

Good eye, Ryan, it is indeed West Fargo. I've long been a fan of the Fargo photogrammetry, and the West Fargo airport has been my go-to for test flying repaints over the past few months. I was super disappointed when SU3 was released and it ruined all photogrammetry sceneries, as it was especially noticeable in all of the photogrammetry fields around Fargo. Fortunately, that has been fixed with the SU4 beta release.

T43, I do have my graphics settings set to ultra, and I like to keep the terrain LOD radius bumped up to 400 as well.

I had noticed that the photogrammetry in the sim had been looking better than ever following the release of SU2, but then it was really screwed-up after the release of SU3 (and I was far from the only one to notice), with all of the square patterns showing up across all photogrammetry sceneries. This bothered me to the point that I really didn't care if when I went to install the SU4 beta that it might bugger the sim, like early SU3 betas, because I already wasn't happy with the sim after the official release of SU3 and I couldn't wait to see if perhaps the SU4 beta would fix the photogrammetry issue. Fortunately, my experience so-far with the SU4 beta has been phenomenal, especially as the photogrammetry issue has been resolved. Also, the one and only issue I had found with the initial release of the SU4 beta, which had to with the lights on every aircraft, has now been fixed with the release of the latest SU4 beta, yesterday. Load times when switching between the main menu, free flight map, and other pages, is way faster now than before, and actual free flight load time is as good as I've ever noticed it to be.

Ahah! I also like FAR area... so funny they chose that place to make PG. Have you noticed any reduction in VRAM usage in SU4 beta? I've not dared to try it... SU3 beta was broken for a while so I reverted back to 2.
