Super Cub: Now Available

Guys, a quick question. Just looking for advice and don't really want to bug Mike with it.

I finally ''drank the kool-aid'' and got whole package.

satisfied thus far, and having some ''super cub'' fun. I am doing it in secret, so my beloved Rose (my A2A Cub) does not get jealous!

One question: am I the only one having issues taxiing on the ground? I seem to have some major problems with my rudder (and it only happens with the FR Super Cubs). It is as if the rudder does not come back to neutral when I ''release it''. The plane goes in circle until I correct that. All is okay once I leave the ground however. And I must say I am having quite a blast testing some short landings!

And here it is for the Classic version. I still enjoy this product so much.

Good one Gajit, will download tonight - many thanks.

I'm having lots of fun doing STOL stuff where and when I choose. Great VC to fly in.

I also downloaded your other 2 repaints for the Classic and they have further reinforced my enjoyment for the FR Supers. Question: I like both of those repants but I mainly fly the tundra version. Can I copy files from the float plane to make up a texture folder which would let me have the float planes repaint for the tundra plane? I noticed that they seem to have similar file name in some cases.

Thanks Howard

Hi Howard

Some texture swapping between models works OK whilst others leave bits unpainted - I had to repaint 3 objects for the change requested by Lawdawg.

Give it a go!

SORRY

to those who have already downloaded my Classic version of N2355H - I made a mistake on the floor textures.

If you find you have untextured white patches where the metal heal plates should be - please download again as I have updated the files.

My Apologies again.

Been flying '50C' quite a bit now and, by and large, pretty much a super cub. I disagree with the throttle retard thing. Unless there's some slack problem in the cable between the throttle lever and the carburetor, it should back off as soon as you touch it. It advances smoothly so it should be the same coming back. The airspeed indicator is very optimistic - often find myself cruising in the cautionary range. Pitch up on the first flap notch is way too much. You mentioned not lowering flaps 'til 60mph - don't think I could get it that slow, and still see over the nose, without flaps. Eighty is the top of the flap arc and some pitch up is expected but not that much.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll let you argue it out with Tom and his experience, as I'm not qualified, never having flown a real one! :)

Unless you're carrying momentum, by turning very quickly, I'm not sure why your turn would continue. Are you using FSX SP2?

I thought I would have a Standard N2355H as well..

I had the same problem, it seems that some of the Cubs have castoring or tailwheel steering and some don't. If you go into the .cfg file and change all the tailwheel castoring points to 60 degrees it will eliminate that problem. Some of the models already are set to 60 degrees (if you bought the full package). It might not be realistic but it sure makes ground handling a lot easier.

Thanks Gagit - I'll try it tonight.

Have a good one. Howard

Hi gagit - It works well! I was even able to use one of your repaints for the larger wheel model on the smaller wheel one and it worked well also. Now I have lots of choices to use between some models.

thanks again for your hard work. Howard

Monk,

Thanks for these tips (sorry for the delay, I was away with the family for spring break). I am willing to give this a try. What are the specifics points you changed in the aircraft.cfg file?

Hi all!

I recently bought the complete Super Cub package and I'm very pleased with the variety and overall handling. The visuals are a little flat and off in my opinion, but that is nothing that can't be fixed (see below).

But first a question: after a while of flying I lose the electrical systems, probably because I saved my default flight as a completey cold & dark Cessna 172. So, I was wondering if there is a hidden alternator switch somewhere, or a way in the aircraft.cfg to enable the alternator from the get go? Alternatively I will switch on the Alternator in my default file or press CTRL+E once airborne, so no biggy. ;)

About the visuals. I found that the windows are way too opaque and milky in the external view, which diminishes the visual quality. So, after getting pointed to the right files by Mike (thanks!) I changed the reflection file to black, in order to get a more realistic look. If you like I can make it available here, although it's in easy change to make yourself. Here:

I also found that the paints are too flat and bright in most cases (white paint turns darker and yellow after a while of sun exposure, for example), so I decided that I'm going to give quite a few paints of the original package a makeover over the next few weeks, to give them more depth. Here is an animated GIF of my first test that is by no means complete, but you get the idea.;)

Hi, jigsaw,

I totally agree with you, those satin surfaces are the only reason, that kept me from buying.
How often l looked at that screenshots, I wasn´t convinced...but if there was a mod!!
Keep going that way!

Cheers, Thilo

Hi Jigsaw,

you are absolutely right. I really love the super cub package, however, from the first second I felt that the outside textures look very unrealistic - much too bright, somehow like a plastic model. I would really appreciate a modification like you have shown in your screenshot. Makes an excellent addon even better... :applause:

Best regards,
Sven

Hi- Jigsaw, welcome to the forums here..Glad to see you on this side,
also glad you got Mike's Supercub-Looking forward to your Mods..!

Patrick,
Good to see ya here. You are makin this bird look a lot better, like ya did with the other cub.
If I can make a request...the Ultima Thule for the Super cub, like ya did for the J-3 for me.
If not, that's OK.
Ya prolly have a lil breathing room now that PNW is out huh?
See ya round.

No problem Hercfan, here's what I did that worked for me. Change the 180 depicted here in the contact points to 60. That should do the trick. (Click on the pic)

Borrowed the dirty wheels from an A2A repaint.
