SweetFX

FSX68

Banned
Me thinks I have arrived a little late to the dance but, I have discovered a free program that glamorizes all those "Pretty" FSX plane shots that I have seen here from time to time leaving
me to wonder if my new GeForce Nvidia GE660 was inferior to others. So, I have stumbled on the dirty little secret called SweetFX et tu, TUFUN? When I installed it, I noticed right away the
sweeping difference between using it and not using it. They have a config program that is very user friendly and there are sooo many effects that you can use. So far my FPS in still
up there and strong. Last image is a split screen where you can see the diff with/with out sweetfsx. Like Fox news says... we report you decide.....

Tried them all, but thanks for the HU. Personally I look at SHADE, SWEETFX and ENB as merely ways to adjust the visuals in the sim outside of reality, things you can do with monitor settings and image editing programs which is why I don't use them.

I know that my son, who has a degree in computer science, and built my rig many times over, espouses the same sentiment as you. But I could not resist a freebie that works.

I tried SweetFX a little while ago and was very pleased with the results. On my system it gave a much crisper and more vibrant display which to me appeared closer to realistic imagery then prior to its use. Some of the new airport scenery that has recently been developed looks so much better with it. The no FPS hit was a solid plus and I give a two thumbs up for SweetFX.

Nice pics! After I got my computer science degree went to worked for FedEx IT. Responsible for several stations in the bay area, plus all the FedEx computer system installed in manufactures and shippers in that area and CA certified weight and balance inspector. That was a crazy job, crazy people, crazy traffic... etc. Flew on FedEx DC10's in the fourth seat
in the cockpit when traveling to Memphis headquarters. Never flew commercial!

Thanks for the complements.
Did you make a friend named wilson? :icon_lol: My son hates IT ; he likens it with plumber work (miles of wires and servers)... He writes software programs as a contractor for the Navy here in Millington TN. Just got his five year pin. I am a proud DAD. View attachment 93274

I was in computer operations. Configured systems for silicon valley companies in their shipping departments. Provided basic training on operations, then setup an appointment for the field trainer to provide further training. Did annual inspections and weight and balance certification on industrial scales. Once in awhile would go out to the ramp and do some inspections at the mechanic hut and watching them prepping the DC10 for flight. Amazing how fast they can load up one of them!

wait....wait...something wrong with plumbing?.........i did it for 20 years...............oh hold on..ihated it...never mind.......

Speaking of weight and balance, I too did Aircraft Weight and balance for Navy aircraft that we transferred/received from our inventory. I also maintained and made entries in all the aircraft logbooks
i.e., compass swings, engine changes, airframe changes etc. and closed them out for transfer or when they were shot down (Viet-nam) or splashed at sea. F-8 Crusaders and F4 Phantom and SH3 seaking helos. My son had a job offer in Silicons Valley and Frisco area with Google right after graduating cum laude but turned it down, too many people and too expensive. He was fortunate
to have a scholarship during last couple years and paid off the first two years. I asked him if he was interested in graduate (masters in computer science) degree and said it's just more math.

Got my hands dirty on F-105F/G Wild Weasel, then received factory fresh F-4G models to replace them. After that was B-52G/H models, would beat on the seat actuators to get them to work, contacts would stick. From there was factory fresh A-10's in Korea. Mostly just sit in the shop, not much work on those... to new. Finally the F-16C/D models. With reclined ejection seat and one piece canopy... it's my favorite jet, right after the F-105. Had to clear a lot of RED X's on those thou due to the canopy design.

In light of one of the sub-topics in this thread, I just couldn't resist posting this link: :icon_lol:

PS: I'd really like to try SweetFX, but thus far have not been successful getting it to work with my Gigabyte HD Radeon 7970 3GB video card.

Use of the custom "D39.dll" file provided with SweetFX will either not allow FSX to start up, or if that file is substituted by a different version, I get 'some' effects, but with a noticeable lack of image sharpness. :banghead:

Anyone here found a way to make SweetFX work with the HD Radeon 7970 ? :ques:

I'm using ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU 1GB using RadeonPro for my profile settings.

SweetFX setting I use are...

#define USE_TONEMAP 1
#define USE_VIBRANCE 1
#define USE_CURVES 1

These are setting for sharping image which are disabled...

#define USE_SMAA_ANTIALIASING 0
#define USE_LUMASHARPEN 0

I only use the RadeonPro SMAA set to ultra and basic AA setting.

Not sure that I see those setting you use in the menu, in any event this is a snip of my settings. Maybe your ATI and my Nvida differ in that regard and don't offer same settings to use.

Thanks for the suggestions; looks like I'll have some additional things to test when I next attempt to get SweetFX running again (this time via RadeonPro) ! :salute:

RadeonPro has the SweetFX feature built menu which make for easy changes.

SMAA has many setting and custom if you desire. AA filter... four choices to choose from.

SweetFX menu... lots of stuff to play with! The three checked are the ones I use. Once you have SweetFX installed click the Import settings, and chooce a SweetFX profile or create you own.

Thanks again for posting the sharp screenies; I'll be sure to refer to them when I a take another look at RadeonPro. ;)

The author of the RadeonPro utility seems like he could teach a few things to the programmers of ATI / AMD's Catalyst driver coding team, doesn't he ? :ernae:
