T-37 Engine Start

Can anyone confirm that when starting the Sim with the T-37 Launch icon, that you initially get a Dos Window that appears? There's never any information on the Dos screen, but it pops up immediately and remains up as long as the sim is active.:salute:

Instead of starting the Cessna and switching over, have you tried starting the Lear and switching over from that?

No DOS window here.

I feel like I'm flogging a dead horse here Tom. I state that I'm through messing with it, then I go right back and reinstall it and try again. . . .like something magical will happen that let's it start the first time, lol. Anyway. . .I haven't tried the Lear because I don't have it installed, but I have tried several other two engine jets and what happens is that when I switch to the T-37, the engines are running perfectly, but the gauges indicate "0" RPM's and as soon as I switch views, the engines die again.

I have noticed a few other little quirks about my installation (I'm installing ver 1.04):
1) I don't get the "configuration manager" after installation to select engine sounds, etc.
2) the last time I Installed via the Flight1 wrapper, it told me my limit had been reached on installations and I would have to go through Flight1 support to get activated again. . . .it then continued with the installation as though nothing was wrong.

I've tried changing the compatibility to run as Vista, Vista SP1, Vista SP2, XP and a few others and it makes no difference.

The visual cues from the 2D cockpit with the engine start panel up tell me that the switches have no effect on the startup procedure in my sim (Win7-64bit). The ground switch only briefly moves the RPM's but they quickly settle back to "0" without ever going past 5%. If I try autostart, the engine will spool, but never ignite. . .eventually quitting.

Is Win7 the culprit here? That's my obvious assumption since no one who has posted a suggestion and has the Tweet running successfully in their sim, is running Win7.:banghead:

Well, lets give it one more shot (from XP) to see if we can shake something lose.

With my default flight, I start from the spot view..

When I switch to the 2D panel, I get the confirmation box in the middle of the screen which might be related to the DOS call you're seeing. Do you get this far??

Once I hit Shift-5 and close the informaiton box, I'm ready to start. This morning it didn't start as expected, and I realized that I did not apply enough throttle. No problems starting the left engine on the 2nd attempt, and no problems with the right engine.

So, that is all I can think of for the moment.

I don't really know what else to add. I "X" out the Dos window (which had no effect on anything, lol). Tried once again to start (it almost acts as though it's starved for fuel, yet the tanks are full and the engine shutoff handles are pressed in), with no success. Is there a fuel valve somewhere I don't know about?

Do you get the configuration menu to setup the sound set you want to use? I remember that from way back when I was still running XP, but it either doesn't install, or it's loaded somewhere that I can't locate (checked all the obvious places). It makes no sense at all that it just won't start. I keep coming back to Win7. . . . . maybe it just won't work on this OS.:salute:

The boost pump switch must be on, then the throttle(s) must be at 50% to initiate a start.

Don't remember any options on the sounds. In looking at my install everything is as it should be. The sound folder has all the files. There are two alternate sound.cfg files labeled as dat files which emulate either 'simulator' or 'real' sounds. Guess I'll have to explore these.

Hey Warhorse, how did you get the IP in the right seat?? I have the instructor audio when I start engines, but the seat is empty. I would very much like to know how you did it.

Hi,

Do you have try the trick:
Remove all files from the panel folder
Start the sim with the Cessna 172 (all running .. fuel pps .. etc..)
Change to the T-37
You will not have anymore the 2D panel .. but only the VC (very good VC) and all engines already running and you are ready to fly ... never fail !
If this not work ....... you have a BIG prob .. cause your OS :)

There's a switch on the center throttle console. Click that and the co-pilot becomes visible.

Yes that works, and it is apparently the only way the Tweet is going to work in Win7. The only drawbacks are that the "Attenuators" remain up during the entire flight and many of the gauges don't work anymore because despite the fact that the engines are running, the programming for the airplane doesn't see that. . . .it still sees a cold and dark cockpit. Basically what I remember it looking like when I tried to install it to FSX.

Oh well.:salute:

Well, the T-37 is history and I found a very suitable sub. . .the Cloud9 MB339 "Frecce Tricolori". Very nice airplane and it actually starts, no problems at all.:salute:

Falcon,

Win7 64 is not the culprit! I'm running Win7 64 bit ultimate on my rig, and for as long as I had FS9 on it, the Tweet worked like a charm!

I will admit though that I deleted all 2d panel entries from the panel.cfg file and used the DSD_skip_view gauge to go immediately to the VC as I only fly from the VC.

You could try that?

EDIT: Ooops, Claudius beat me to it!

Hope this helps!

Try Ctrl+W (Water Rudder) to retract these. Works for me with WIN 7-32. I also use Bob Chicolo's 2 engine jet panel as a replacement for the OEM 2D panel, not prototypical, but I use my imagination and pretend the Tweety-Bird has been upgraded to introduce students to modern flat panels and HUD, has everything you need to fly anywhere in FSX.

Thanks, I dropped this one about a week after my last post. There were just too many problems in FSX to continue trying to force it to work.:salute:

I have found out that you need Windows 7 Ultimate version to make the T-37 work correctly in FS9. If you're running a lesser version, you can upgrade, I think it's DL-able from the MS sight.

I picked Win 7 32-bit when I built my first ever machine because of its compatibility with so much older stuff, like FSX. The Microsimulator T-37B is incredible for its ability to span three different platforms, FS-8-9-X and get better looking each time! It's Achilles Heel is the 2D Panel, something in the Panel Cabinet file just will not play with FSX. If you change your aircraft settings in FSX to 3D Cockpit at start, you can fly her, with non-working gauges, but as soon as you cycle views and wind up at 2D, the engines die and you find out what an incredible glide ratio the Tweety has, not to mention indestructability despite realism settings at max when you land in rough territory.

I'm still gonna play with it more, there are some BATCH files associated with the T-37B program, but I think they were written for XP / FS 8 & 9, and I'm still wrapping my head around modifying them for FSX / Win 7. I'll post more if I make progress.
