Take on Helicopters, what is it like?

As I love my passion for simulators with great realism who capture textures so real you can almost touch them a Simulator specifically which focuses on Helicopters is out. Who tried it out? How realistic is it?(realistic as in can you start a helicopter as you would in real life) Heck I'm eager to get my hands on it :wiggle:

From what I heard, it's not a realistic sim at all.
Just a good replacement for SimCopter.... even though SimCopter *might* stil be better for some aspects :D

Plus, they already had People Flow (c) and Nature Flow (c) and Vehicule Flow (c) at that time. With 3D waves !

Appart from this, I realize that SimCopter was not exactely the comparison I should have made.
To be honnest, this new game should be considered as the new "Search and Rescue". The very first one was my favorite helicopter game at the time :)
 
I have the game, and it can be fairly accurate to a degree. Mind you however, you won't be adjusting your altimeter, or anything like that, but it has some nice dynamics and interesting scenarios. There is even a monetary system, where you can advance your money and move forward in your business, etc. As a simulator, it's not too bad, but as I said, don't expect to be tuning into NDBs or VORs. A high fun factor. I just with the simulator didn't crash on me so much (a video card problem on my end).

I still like to think there is no successor to the good old Longbow sim from way back in 96 or 97. DCS Blackshark is a true sim, but too complex for my liking. Longbow had the sufficient sim-level with near-instant playability associated. After my slight disappointment with ToH I purchased a radio-controlled chopper at the last FS Weekend and am now learning to fly THAT in my backyard. MUCH more fun ! :kilroy:
 
Interestingly, though, some of the specialists at Hovercontrol are working on improved flight dynamics, apparently with some support from the publisher. Might be worth keeping an eye on this line of development. More here.
 
A friend of mine got it and I gave it a quick try and to be honest I didn't really care for it. Very restrictive free fly options,only a couple of choppers to fly,graphics were only so-so,not much if any interactivity in the VC.
But to be fair I didn't do any manual reading or spend a whole lot of time on it. If I were to run across it in the bargin bin I might give it a go on my PC but I don't think so at what they are asking for it now.

Wait... way too funny. I purchased a Syma 107G a couple of months ago and the little thing made me realize how much fun the RC scene is so I then purchased a 26" coax that I already crashed. :gameoff: I have some big hopes in the future with my RC heli flying. Someone really close to me (you know who ;) ) told me that they were on the Spektrum radio pages looking for my gift and that the flying machine part was not in yet :jump:. Considering what she has done for me in the past I can only imagine what she's up to. You should take a peak over at helifreak.com and see whats up. What I've learned so far is to stay away from the Blade SR, all the other Blades are just fine. I was directed to the MCPx if I wanted to learn a collective pitch and If I wind up having a large CP fall into my lap over the holiday, I will probably buy the MPCx myself so I can crash it without worrying about it while I learn more. You will crash! :icon_lol:

I have ToH and I remember how Rise of Flight was received...hmmm..it was basically ridiculed

If you bought Rise of Flight when it was released and you stayed with it - you have a tremendous sim today and it continues to be improved.

I get the same feeling with ToH from their developer interaction on the forums (yes they talk about their sim on SimHQ and other boards as well as their own)

If you want to wait for a patch or two you probably wont have to wait long...but I bought it right away and I'm not sorry.

Is it a game more so than a sim? - yes today that statement is true

Will it always be so? No - I think not

If you own it and you take on the career mode - remember to fly the military missions that brother Joe reminisces about and you fly as 'flashback' memories
I got shot down in the desert, had to repel a few gomers with my rifle and eventually evade on foot to the evac point...it was fun

I fear the autogyro in my may be broke. The chopper now hovers underneath a stable counterweight atop the rotor, but porpoises all the time underneath that !

May need a new one soon...... but my birthday has already gone and we don't celebrate anything else :-(

It IS great fun indeed !

Oh, and I love ArmA...... very well programmed. Not so much ToH, but indeed, that may change over time. ;-)
