Taking a vacation, kinda...

Hey,

Just wanted to let y'all know that I will be leaving early this Sunday morning from the Boston area, driving out to my old stomping grounds in the Buffalo / Niagara Falls area, where I should arrive by early evening. I'll be there through Friday morning, attending a four-day teacher's conference, then driving up to Toronto and across Ontario to Montreal, Quebec before driving home the following Sunday evening.

I'll be traveling by myself, allowing for some much needed "alone" time, though seeing and spending a night at "Uncle Dirty's" house and perhaps seeing Alpha_1 while in the Toronto area will be a really cool time, I'm sure.

I won't be completely out of touch, because I will have my laptop. (signal permitting)

I don't doubt you'll need Body Armor if you try to mediate that Dirty / Alpha "Beer War", Drew... :pop4:

Boy, I hope you still have enough brain cells left to make missions! Trying to hang with Dirty has been known to give guys amnesia. I'm sure you'll have a blast, hope you remember how to get home. May God have mercy on ya!:ernae::ernae::ernae:

After day one of the conference I went down to the falls to "decompress." Here are four of the 130-ish pictures I took so far...

I did the "Maid of the Mist" today as well, but stayed on the American side. I may or may not do the "Cave of the Winds," we'll have to see.

Canada will be Wednesday or Thursday.

Today was "local fare" day,

So this meant Beef on Weck and Buffalo wings. I was going to go the Anchor bar for those, but was told by the local-yokels that the food there had gone "downhill," so I went to Duff's instead.

I'm toying with the idea of going back to the falls tonight to watch the fireworks and take some night shots.
 
Beef on weck...

Here's the Beef on weck shot, excuse the lighting, the German pub had GREAT food, but it was quite dark. With weck, the horseradish makes or breaks the sandwich.

I also threw in a couple of "Maid of the Mist" shots from yesterday.

On a side note, I miss the simplicity of Buffalo's food. The restaurant where I had weck had two items with three total options: beef on weck, beef on regular roll, and chili. That's it.

The wings came with a REAL-sized tub of blue cheese to put out the flames, and a bucket to throw the bones and napkins into. Sometimes it's nice not to have the wife and kids, you can just enjoy your wings like a man and not have to be so darn "prissy."

Being back here has only strengthened my resolve to live here once again on a permanent basis. I miss the small-town warmth and charm of this area, whereas New England tends to me more highly-competitive and "closed-off."

I'll miss the historical richness of Boston, and my beloved sports teams, but in all honesty, I'm truly a country-bumpkin at heart. I'll have to really work on Erica though...
 
Jeez, Rami, did ya take a wrong turn? That area sure looks like some of the "Valley" down here.:salute:

I guess tomorrow is "D" day. Try to stay out of trouble!:ernae:
