Team Outhouse RTWR 2012 Practice 1

Ok, I "see" where we're going, sort of. Even though it's dark in Hawaii right now! I have the baton, PHNN - PHNY, Lockheed Vega.

Flying this plane in the dark may not have been the smartest thing ever. I may live to see the dawn. ETE 0:10.

I have the baton, PHLU - PHNL, Piper Cub, as required by the rules, on a 50 nm leg. I'm glad it's day time in Hawaii now.

ETE 0:26. The dolphins are passing me. They're jumping out of the water and laughing at me.

Because of where Dave started (and finished) the race and because of the leg length limitations imposed we don't really have a choice other than to head in a westerly direction to leave Hawaii via a series of island hops. The question is do we head for Japan and then up the Aleutian chain to the required airport at CYEK (possibly picking up the bonus airport RORY along the way) which would have us going around the world the 'normal' way....

OR...

do we head for Australia and the required airport at YMJM which would have us going around the world the 'wrong' way.

Of course, as one of our competitors proved, there really is no 'right' or 'wrong' way if you get favourable winds (or none at all).

Any thoughts or suggestions?

We have to make a decision soon otherwise we are going to run out of short default flights around the Hawaiian Islands. :icon_lol:

Internet decided to take a dump just after I landed, so no map from duenna. Anyhow, baton is free at PHNL. I think. I don't know what "HNL5" is. This leg might need to be reflown after all. Apparnelty "HNL5" is a spot about 100 miles south of Hawaii, so the duenna a FUBAR, and I have no other evidence, so this leg is invalid. This is probably related to the Internet problems I'm experiencing. This could be an issue...

I rule the leg is valid

25/11/2011 23:42:10; 21.306778; -157.916067; 17; 0; 6; 2; 1
25/11/2011 23:42:15; 21.306778; -157.916117; 17; 0; 0; 0; 1

The last recorded position is right on the runway at PHNL

I am not sure why Duenna would have messed that up.

Rgr that Dave. I'm having odd Internet connectivity isseus right now. I was off line for the past 20 minutes, rebooted computers and dsl modem, and so far I seem to be back up. I'm guessing that has something to do with the FUBAR'd duenna. Here's some Kodaks of the flight.
