Before I joined the navy as a wee lad in 1980, I was the same airplane and ship nut that I am today. I had books. I knew what CNV-65 looked like and understood her place in history. After boot camp and A-School I was assigned to an A-7E squadron with CAG-11.
Enterprise... I thought that was pretty cool. What I didn't know was that CVN-65 had been in the yards undergoing the big refit that resulted in the removal of the SPS-32 and 33 antenna systems (the "dome"). So when I climbed aboard Enterprise for the first time, it took time, five or ten minutes of staring up at that huge ship from the pier, but suddenly I was shocked - "WTH...?? Where's the dome??!!?" True story.

I like the "vintage" look too, but the "sans-dome" version is the one I served on.
