I just spent 4 plus hours getting FSX reinstalled on my computer, adding in all my extras like UT USA and Can....

I start FSX, it runs fine. shut down and then restart.

I get an error message that "the Lclookup.bgl file is missing or damaged. Please reinstall Flight Simulator to restore or repair the file. Flight Simulator will now exit" :angryfir: :angryfir: :crybaby: :crybaby:

!@#$%$#@!#!!!!!!

Could anyone e-mail me this file? So I don't have to spend another 5 hours doing this all again!!!

Coming your way Brian.

All fixed... Seems a scenery file I installed overwrote the original and screwed it up.

I simply can NOT forgive content creators who unthinkingly overwrite or change default files! There is absolutely no reason whatever why anyone would change, modify or overwrite the Lclookup.bgl file...

That's one reason why I install one addon at a time, and only then after having unpacked/installed it to a dummy folder...

...and then start FS to make certain that nothing's gone FUBAR from the addon...

And this from a priest, so you know it's an egregious offense. :icon_lol:

Very wise advice.

For you guys that are used to doing auto-installers, you might start trying manual installs to keep this from happening. Just create a Temp folder on the desktop and run the installer, tell it FS is in that Temp folder, and go. Then transfer the contents one section at a time.

Some installers now will 'not' let you do this, as you know. These are because they are trying to keep down the piracy of their contents. But for those that dont, you have some options.

FSX is also not the easiest to maintain and reload...

For installers that automatically go to the FSX directory via the registry entry and don't let you change it, I believe the keys they look for are here:

32 bit: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0\
64 bit: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0\

The FSX location is within the SetupPath key.

I advise you to be careful in the registry and that you back up anything before you change it. As a disclaimer, it's not my fault if you mess something up or something breaks as a result of doing stuff in your registry, so again, be careful.

Some installers may also require that the FSX.exe is present within the folder, to verify FSX is located there or to verify the version of FSX (for example, addons that require Acceleration).

The culprit was I believe, Scenery Tech's North America landclass. I actually sound the Lclookup.bgl in a backup folder after Ken shot me a copy of the original.

All is well and the computer is running FSX ok... I don't have the horsepower to run it well. Maybe as a bush sim where there isn't much around. Heck, I have problems flying into Metropolitan ares in FS9 (Might have something to do with the huge amounts of AI I run)

I feeel your pain...

Just reinstalled FSX...GEX UTX FEX All way well...

Installed one of my favs... vinkin 9will remain nameless...lol)

FSX never started again..just a black screen...Agrrrrrrrrrr

No joy still...

This is not the fault of the Vinkin let me point out...I had a HDD crash a while back , reinstalled , and all seemed good..last night the computer refused to shut down..

OH BOY...I get to start over with a fresh OS install, cause I believe my backup to be corrupt too....
