Have Fun!

Signing out for a vacation.
Those days in Nice have given me ideas. I'll spend two weeks on the beach before continuing.
I'll finish this event at my pace after my return. Don't wait for me for the finals.
See you.
Gunter

Enjoy yourself well my friend!

Have fun!

My starting email didn't post :)banghead: Internet connection) - so here's the full monty.

Back from a great vacation on France's atlantic coast with the kids. Sun, sand, surf what could one ask for? A little flight for a change maybe?

This one is from Nice to Lisbon.
Nice weather, but battling a headwind that forced a low flight barely above the pyrenees mountains.

It will take me another 10 days to Buenos Aires at least. Don't wait for me with the celebrations, but leave me a bottle or two.

Yippee!!! On we go...

Thanks for the hard work getting the server up again!:ernae:

Would have been kind of lame to be stranded in Lisbon (though it's not the worst city to be stranded in).
The show can go on.

I've progressed to south america meanwhile. 3 legs to go.

Here's a fast summary:

Times, weights and fuel data are in the attached excel list, you may want to check for accuracy though.

No Duenna!! :banghead:

Did I say that there was a Duenna error (error window popup that prevented Duenna from starting), and that Duenna didn't auto pickup the baton, and that I realised that only after landing in SBRF, and that I was p:censored:ed...!
So I don't have full validation of the flight.
I will NOT fly that leg again. That has also something to do with spouses and kids getting impatient, but I won't go into more details about that...
Also, I think I'll put a big poster above my monitor -"Check Duenna - Check Duenna - Check Duenna"

I'll add some screenshots supporting times and weight later, but in the end, if the flight doesn't qualify, no problem if I'm out of the "competition".

After all, it's been a really interesting and fun trip, learning a tremendous amount of new stuff along the way, getting to new places, first trip across the ocean, even causing heartbeat to accelerate over the ocean or in the fog looking for the airport, and finally optimising all parameters to fly this as well/fast/efficient as possible has been a good challenge in itself.

Duenna files

Strange - I'm not able to attach any .JPG files...

Duenna jpg is in the link to the tracking site anyway, so that should not be much harm. Strange nevertheless.
Maybe still some work to do. Poor guys... good luck, and thanks again for providing such a great service!

Takeoff

Takeoff Weight: [LINESTRIKE]115200 lbs[/LINESTRIKE]
Declared Payload: [LINESTRIKE]30893 lbs[/LINESTRIKE]
Fuel: 4400 lbs

Edit: Ooooppppppssss..........
Don't know what happened, but upon landing I find payload only 18293 lbs. Must have pressed cancel instead of ok when changing the payload or something of this type...

Have to remember: Check and recheck fuel and weight. Another poster above my screen? That wall is getting crowded. :d

So the real weights are:
Takeoff Weight: 102600 lbs
Declared Payload: 18293 lbs
Fuel: 4400 lbs

(Remaining fuel, 1897.8 lbs, is coherent with 4400 gal at TO. So at least I didn't botch that, and am here to tell.)

That climb to cruise level was heavy... the turbulences shook the plane around in all directions;
I don't think our passenger has appreciated.
Landing at Sao Paulo was fortunately easier with a ceiling 2000 ft above the field.

Does visibility "4" in the ATIS announcement mean 4 nm, or 4000 ft?

Looked rather like 4000 ft to me, but my perception may be biased by adrenaline... ;)

Landing

Landing Weight: 100099.5 lbs
Fuel Used: -2477.9 lbs

Does visibility "4" in the ATIS announcement mean 4 nm, or 4000 ft?
Visibility there will be in Statute Miles... so 4 statute miles.

Years ago I flew a Piper Cherokee from STL to LAF (filed VFR). Visiblity the entire way was reported 3 miles in Haze. Pilotage was next to impossible. No GPS then so VORs / NDBs were the "Nav du jour." Technically I was legal to fly VFR, but I learned that day that: Legal Smart.

So yes... 4sm visibility isn't a whole lot for VFR flying.

Leg 9 Dakar - Recife "proof"

Said I'd post some details on the GOOY SBRF flight where I have no Duenna.

No problem at all is the flight is not valid.

Austin, Dave, Edit: and Red, thanks for the support.
Looking good.
The Rio de la Plata is in sight, sun's just coming up - beautiful.
That's one long adventure coming to a close...

Not yet...

Well, well, well, not this time...

FS just quit as I dialed in the SAEZ ATIS frequency. :icon_eek:

Well, that gives me the opportunity to do another flight. Actually I was getting quite nostalgic that this would be the last one. This trip has occupied me for quite some time now.

So, cool, I'll fly another one. :jump:

Sorry to the people come to the airport to pick up the latecomer. Fear you can go back to the party. But I'll be there soon, and then we can have a beer or two and tell stories from this great trip.

Some photos nevertheless
