TEXAS snow hazard!

Wow, we don't get much snow here in Dallas and today we got dumped on!! I was off today, so I ran an errand last night and when I can back I almost parked under the covered parking, but being lazy and not wanting to walk further and also thinking the weather wasn't going to get that bad, I opted to park in the open next to my apt.
Just went out to grab a bite to eat and it was a freakin winter wonderland and my camry was covered under 10 inches of snow, unbelievable. Now the freaky part, as I was wiping the snow off my windshield I heard a loud cracking sound and then a large boom and car alrams. ONE WHOLE SIDE OF THE COVERED PARKING JUST COLLAPSED FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW ONTO THE CARS UNDER IT...WHERE I WOULD HAVE PARKED LAST NIGHT!!!

I'm still in shock from just seeing it happen, man, talk about lucky.

Glad you or your car suffered no damage ! Seems like ya'll are getting a fair share of snow this winter season.

Yep, ya have to wonder about lame engineering standards ... no one ever designs things for that "freak" of nature accident. Just like that post ... somewhere around here ... about those hangar roofs collapsing in the DC/MD area ...

Not to mention all those stores with the large flat roofs ... You know the ones, Home Depot, Lowes, Malls, etc ... they got folks on the roofs shoveling snow as you read this.

Glad nothing happened to ya Michael ... Course, now if you had a real 4WD you wouldn't have to worry about a little snow. :jump:

I do miss my truck Snuffy, had them all the way up to this car.

I am still kinda freaking out about this. As I was walking out the door and seeing all the snow I was thinking to myself 'why didn't I park under the covered parking" and to see it fall, really freaky.

definitely gives you a small taste of what you guys up north have to deal with.

Mike I was watching you area on our news. Tomorrow morning looks like it will be the worse for you guys. It also said your area wasn't budget or have the equipment to clear the roads. So being since your town will be closed don't forget to build us a biggie snowman, take some pictures and post them :jump::jump:...lol...Mike

Sucks that last friday we had a snowstorm..and the last 2 days another one blows through. Sucks even more that more snow is on the way sometime during the weekend. And I haven't been to work because of this mess:isadizzy:

LOL..

Clearly this has already been one of the coldest and wetest winters I have experienced in my lifetime, and I'm 46 years old.

I swear if I hear another claim of global warming I'm going to puke on the person who says it! :icon_lol:

This is the third in three consecutive colder winters than the previous season. Speaking with people who lived in the east New Mexico area 60 and 70 years ago, they say this winter reminds them of those from their youth. I think the globe is on the entry path of a 30-year cooling cycle which they experienced in their youth.

So, it would not surprise me to see next winter even colder.

Cheers,

Ken

When was the last time y'all saw the ground ? The pictures of your area is unreal. If our area even got a third of what you guys have we would be closed for weeks....Mike

Ten inches??? Roof collapse??? We get ten inchers all the time (except this winter) All I can say is that we will be having an early spring this year in VT if we don't get any snow. I've got less than 4 inches in the yard and 50 miles south (White River Jct. VT and Lebanon NH) there's hardly any on the ground. Up north near the Canadian border where I've been working, there's less than a foot on the ground.

Colder n' ell though. I hate to say it but the Farmer's Almanac nailed it this year. Colder than normal with less snow in the New England area and colder and snow in places where it doesn't usually snow like the mid Atlantic and Midwest.

Might have to pay closer attention to their forecasts now.

Well Michael, all that snow you got in Dallas is now forcast to be here in FLA today, (Friday). As of 1300 hours last night, the local weather man was showing local radar in 3D ...
at 15,000 to 9,000 there was actually snow falling in the Jax area.

The ground and close air temps temps were still in the 40s so the snow that was falling at the upper elevations last night was evaporating before it got to 8,000 ... *sigh*.

Any how ... its pouring rain right now (0740) and its forcast depending on track, that North FLA may be breeched and there could be some trace amounts of snow in the area. The weather man has said that definately, south Georgia, will be in for some white stuff. Not much, an inch or so, but snow doesn't usually fall this far south.

I reckon some of our Georgian members might be getting some white stuff today. They predict the best chance of snow for Georgia is from Waycross and north though.

All depends on those fickle things called jetstreams and pressure ridges. :)

They say the panhandle of FLA ... will definately see some ... in fact, the schools, business, and government buildings are already shut down out there in anticipation. LOL!

Here in the Texas Panhandle we awoke to a bright blue sky for the first time in about three weeks. We still have a lot of snow on the ground though.

Wow! Michael aren't ya glad you were lazy for once? Great to hear your car is ok. Sometimes it's well worth having to clean off the snow. ;)

With this last storm, we now have a total of close to 50 inches of snow so far this year here in New Castle, Delaware. I had a 3' drift on my carport up next to the house, and 12"s from there down to the eves. Had to brace one corner so it wouldn't collapse. Got out there today for the second time to clean it off. There's still a 5' section by the eves I cant' reach, but that shouldn't be a problem I hope. I'd have to tresspass on the neighbors to get to it... I don't think they 'd like that. Another storm is coming our way for Monday and Tuesday with another 10"s of snow. Not normal at all for this part of the East Coast.
