Texture Duplicates

Hello All, its' me, the BDMF of the sim world. I ran "easy duplicate finder" on my "add-on scenery" folder. Lots o' duplicates. What is the proper protocal for trimming these down? Some of these sceneries are selectable in "select a flight". Do not want to get rid of that option. Do I create a folder and call it something like "generic textures" to hold a single copy of the duplicated textures and activate it in the library? (leaving the actual scenery folders in place). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I am currently reworking my scenery folders to eliminate duplicates of textures and bgls. I am taking all of the scenery that came with Bill and Lynn Lyon's aircraft and putting them into one big scenery package. Then I will take all of Leon Louis's scenery and put all of them into one MEGA sized scenery folder. I have the Lyon's scenery done and found maybe a dozen duplicated texture files...which is nothing to worry about. But I know that by the time I get all of Leon Louis's scenery into a common folder, I will have eliminated 100s of duplicated scenery files and possibly a lot of duplicated BGL files as well.

Once I have all this done, I am going to go into all the flights that came with the Lyon planes and use AFCAD to create start points for the scenery so that it can be accessed via the airport selection window. There is some really nice scenery that comes with Bill and Lynn Lyon's aircraft but you can't readily access it other than through the flights.

Ok. hypothetically, could I take all of my addon scenery and dump it into just one scenery and one texture folder? Not that I would want to. Just not sure how MSFS works.

Snow Moth

This was supposed to be a new thread.

Took the ol' Pus Moth out for a jaunt in the Alaskan snow. Sure made me feel cold. She handled beautifully!

That's basically what I am doing with all of my Leon Louis scenery packages....instead of having 100 individual scenery packs, I am going to have 1 really fat scenery package. I have 53 of Leon's scenery packages consolidated into one package and have probably eliminated close to 500 duplicate texture files. Still have 60 odd more of Leon's packages to unzip and add to the mega-pack...so by doing this consolidation, I could possibly eliminate close to 1000 duplicated texture files. Say each one is 64K...that is 64 MEGS of HD space saved and a much streamlined scenery set up to manage.

I have all of the scenery that came with Bill and Lynn Lyon's aircraft installed into one scenery package.

I've started doing the same with all of my "EZ Scenery" libraries. Tons of duplicates there too. I just hope I keep the best of the best. Heck, it's all better than stock MSFS.
