Texture Issues with SSW FRF-104G

Apparently, there was once a thread on this subject, but it has since become inaccessible. Well, I guess I'm starting it again.

I recently downloaded the Sim Skunk Works FRF-104G from SimMarket. Apparently, the addon itself was meant for P3dv5, but I saw comments saying that it worked in FSX, and thus figured I could install it.

Upon installing it, I found that the aircraft was entirely textureless; none of the paint schemes that were supposed to be included actually showed up, and the cockpit was essentially a black void. Investigating this, I saw that the texture folders were empty of any texture files (save for a texture.cfg file and a thumbnail image), and had texture.cfg files that simply pointed to different texture folders. These folders were also empty (save for the a thumbnail and a cfg, of course), and had texture.cfg files pointing to other folders, which were themselves empty. I think all of you can see the problem.

Based on the pre-existing forum thread, I can see that I am not alone in having this issue. Do any of you have a fix?

Thanks,
Frank

At some point, textures were a separate download. I don't know how SimMarket packages the F104G,, but SSW logic was quite peculiar.

Check inside each texture folder for the texture.cfg file, in mine it looks likle this (one example among many variants):

Code:
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\..\..\SSW-FRF-104G-TEXTURES\MAP\texture.Edwards Test
fallback.2=..\..\..\SSW-FRF-104G-TEXTURES\MAP\texture.cockpit.common
fallback.3=..\..\..\SSW-FRF-104G-TEXTURES\MAP\texture.external.commond
fallback.4=..\..\..\SSW-FRF-104G-TEXTURES\MAP\texture.external.common

So if your aircraft folder structure is not exactly like SSW intended, you'll have black textures everywhere...

Solution: rewrite these texture.cfg files to your liking and move around bmp/dds files as needed (complicated), or follow installation instructions to the letter (complicated too)...

It's a fun aircraft once you fly it, but it took me hours to sort it out! Not to mention how to close canopy, start the engine, etc... It's like a puzzle, it keeps you busy on long winter nights... Don't give up yet!
