Makin em laugh up at the great comedy club in the sky now. RIP Jonathan, thanks for the laughs:salute:

Appreciate your including the clip from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." Just about everyone who was into comedy in the early 60s was in that film. I don't see how you could be on the crew and keep a straight face. Hopefully they only had to do one take for the "Ray and Irving's" scene!

Besides being good fun the film, with Mr. Winters in it, was and still is a fine light-hearted commentary on what happens to otherwise reasonable people when that "green-eyed monster," as my dad used to call it, gets hold of them.

I remember seeing a video clip some time back that may be of interest. Mr. Winters, who was at least part-American Indian, was asked to parody an intoxicated person of that extraction during a stand-up stage show. He politely but firmly declined to do so. Good for him.

For our veterans, I believe Mr. Winters was a USMC alumnus. Given his age he may have been a WWII or Korean War veteran, however, I do not know.

A salute to you, sir, for bringing clean, non-vulgar laughter to so many people!:salute:

He served 2 and a half years in the South Pacific during WWII, right after school.
He was only 17 when he signed up.
Had the rank of Corporal when he left and went to college in Ohio right after the war.

Mr. Winters had stated he was always proud to have been a Marine, and he wouldn't hesitate to defend the Corps.

I grew up, listening to Jonathan Winters comedy LPs, and watching his movies, like the aforementioned "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."

I found this Youtube video of Jonathan and Dean Martin doing a airliner skit. The first part of the video mentions that Jonathan did the entire skit off the cuff; or "winged it"!! He truly was a gifted comedian. Unlike so many nowadays, he didn't have to resort to cuss words. He was genuinely a funny man.

Growing up I watched him on Mork and Mindy, I thought it was so weird at the time that he was supposed to be Mork's Son.. But, now as I look back at it he was truly a master when it came to comedy. Loved him in Mad Mad Mad World.

I agree with NavyChief on that observation. It is amazing that the greatest comics never had to resort to "dirty language" or even "inuendo" to be truly funny!
