Hi, my name is *********** (edit: now my cover is blown, no need to mention my full name again, don't need this to be googlable just yet)
, you may remember me from some add-ons like the snowcap on Mt. Fuji and ...
Some time ago, I sort of dropped off the radar suddenly and completely. This was to do mostly from being overwhelmed and unable to deal with a lot (most) of aspects of my life. This also attributed to physical problems.

I'M SORRY I didn't take two minutes to inform you all. At the time I crashed, I just couldn't face it, as time passed it changed to awkwardness about the situation and reluctance to be pulled in again.
I kept my website up as much as I could though, but when the domain name renewals came up I just let the whole lot expire.
THANK YOU, as a community, for picking up the slack on supporting that jungle of downloads I made.
THANK YOU, as a community for sticking it out with cfs2.

People around me trying to help made it clear to me that I had to cold turkey stop a lot of "less important" activities. The most obvious sacrifice had to be cfs2. With that and other sacrifices, I managed to continue my life very low profile but maintaining a decent job, paying the mortgage etc.
Now, I have a different job, nicely close to home, and more in control of my time and activities (minimal as they are).
I'm trying to fight my demons one by one. One of these is the VTP1 algorithm. I got totally stuck on writing the code for that, and it is still a major knot in my brain that I have to resolve.
My internet/computer related activity at home is now extremely sparse, and very objective-focussed so I won't overwhelm myself again.
That is the good news, by the way. I have to finish the cfs2autocoast tool before I can let cfs2 retire.
That is, if you will take me back into the community after the stunt I performed :redf:
I don't have much free time, but I now work in the aircraft part supply chain :icon_lol:, which adds to the motivation, and work with software developers who are willing to help me out with some of the hard parts of the code. So it is now very achievable to complete the VTP1 generation; I know exactly what needs to be done once that specific hurdle is taken.
I did not take it lightly to return to this forum; I hate making false promises and raising expectations I cannot meet (edit: and I realize that is exactly what I have done in the past). It took me this long to line up the opportunity to make this work without backfiring on me.
I've just taken a quick look-around the forum and downloads, and noticed in particular the new LWM's and mesh from our dear friend Rhumbaflappy.
Surely, my tool must be adjusted to cope with those (hopefully I can work with the source poly dataset), lay some nice beaches down.
What I need before I get started it a complete rundown of the other addons (egypt?) I need to take into consideration to maintain/create/improve compatibility. Then, when I have a build environment set up, we can completely redo the world.
I look forward to talking to you all again! How are you all doing?

Sander,

I had a feeling that was you, we are glad to have you back! :ernae:

Rhumbaflappy's watermasks and LOD mesh are indeed the new standard, Jean Bomber (have a look at Gibraltar!) and MaskRider are also making add-ons for CFS2 that incorporate this new method. We're kind of in a transition period at the moment.

I had contacted you some time ago about uploading your older Europe files here to SOH because I have become the de facto custodian of those scenery packages, but now that you perhaps may be doing an update, it seems a moot point.

I'll let others fill you in on some of the other details...

Glad to see ya SdC! Hope all is well for ya!

As for the rest of us CFS2 'faithful', its been kinda busy. Rhumbaflappy released a couple of HUGE global mesh sets, and more planes are always being built, not to mention that the European Theater is not littered with airfields.

Phew thanks Rami

A lot of people tried to contact me. I cant say sorry enough to all the people I pushed away.

I know Dick was one of these victims, I'll definitely get in touch with him personally to apologize and request the sources for the LWM.

Cheers! You mean "ïs now littered", right? :wiggle:

Yes.....Sander, bases in Europe now stretch from the Shetland islands to the arctic wastes of Norway, from Gibraltar and Morocco to Beirut and the Suez canal. In addition, you can fly from Brest to the steppes of Kursk without interruption.

It's truly astounding, and Achim27619 is one of the primary reasons why! :ernae:

(Though Ajax and Canion have also made the OstFront one of the "hidden gems" of CFS2.)

LOL the Shetland Islands! How interesting you mention that. The segment I was processing with cfs2autocoast/ground2k that made me realize ground2k was really no longer a viable option for automating the conversion process, was Scotland.... That's why it has remained a blank. I just could not make ground2k compile it no matter what I did... man, what a time waster that has been....

Hi Sander,
Great to hear from you and understand completely. It takes a lot to get 'back on the horse' when things like that happen, it makes you re-align your life and realise what's important to you.

Best of luck and appreciate what you've done for the CFS2 community, and when right, what you can do..:ernae:

Cheers Shessi

Sander,

BELIEVE ME, I know exactly what you mean. I'm going through a similar situation myself, have had to disappoint a lot of people, and will have to disappoint quite a few more before things stabilize. Please keep yourself well.

Sdc;:applause:
Glad to see you back.:jump: Remember that this is a "hobby" and shouldn't be a obsession. Do what you have to do for your own well-being. I LOVE what you do (I wish I had the talent to do it) but pace yourself. Don't let this VRW overpower your Real World.

Hi Sander,

welcome back. Take your time.

I keep my fingers crossed that all will turn out well in the end. Keep your head up.

Achim

Hoi Sander, leuk dat je wat van je laat horen. En rustig aan dan breekt het lijntje niet!

Hi Sanders,

It's good to see you back at the SOH. Believe me buddy you're not alone there, I had to take an extended time out from CFS2 and pretty much all other activities due to major brain overload. It's a big step coming back to the OH and for me it was more then a little daunting after being away so long but over the past few weeks I've starting posting and contributing again.

Lately I've been looking into VTP2 poly's for CFS2 and have some success in getting them to show up.

Cheers :ernae:

Holy smoke, welcome back Sander! I never thought that you let any of us down. When things overwhelm you it often happens that events move beyond your control (and I mean that for all of us) and one should only be held to account for what one can control. It is so good to hear from you. Every time I fly over the coast of northern Europe you come to mind.
By the way, you might like to take a look at what Jean Bomber has done for the north African coast and Gibraltar.

Welcome back Sanders

You have been greatly missed and I know will be warmly welcomed back by all.
Life's a rollercoaster, ups and downs, you dont need to explain to anyone, we're just glad to see SDC in this forum again. :jump:

Sander, I am very happy to read these lines from you!

I absolutely can understand your point of view in making a total break.

Life comes first, that is what we all tell the other ones.
But lets face it: CFS2 is addictive. And those of us, who dig in the bowles spend far alot of time with it.

Same for me. In the last days of my studying, I made a complete cut as well. The last year in my new job was hell on earth and I did not do more CFS2 then to read the forum once a week.

And then, the fever came back. But I think, I can control it some more today.
(Can I? - It is 2.37 AM !! :kilroy:)

But seriously: I have still so many ideas in and for this game. I can`t stop thinking about it and every now and then I need to sit down, puzzle and try it out. Tinker here and there and I feel fine.

I hope, you found this balance as well and will manage to keep that level in future.

And finally: I played a bit with your autocast tool and made some progress about a year ago. Wanted to fill the gaps you left blank.
I was able to do this for some squares in norway and got braver: I hand edited the lines for the shores in Northern Germany incl. rivers.

It looked so good, until I started to make a BGL out of it. There were somehow little bugs in my files and your tool could not manage it.
After some time, I ran out of ideas and I got sidetracked like so often.

I look forward to your new attemp. I promise, I will follow you closely this time. Damn, what would I have given, if I could have asked a question a year ago!!

But I don`t want to build up pressure again with my first post.
Like I wrote in the first line: I am very happy to see you are fine!

So, in the meantime: Welcome back!

:icon29:
