One shiny bare aluminum bird here John, always impressed that a person your age has such a knowledge and affinity for WWII aircraft ... Mike :medals:
 
I think it's the FSD model, and it's not the prototype but rather how "White lightning" (N25L) looks these days now that it's owned by Red Bull Austria.

Thats the FSD/Milviz P-38 I modeled a few years back and its not the prototype, but the Red Bull P-38 that was restored from Lefty's White Lightnin crash. Its a Reno air race style hybrid with the engine coweling of an early F model, and the rest of it was an L model. Also the turbo's were removed from the back and covered, with carb scoops put on the top of the coweling. The cockpit is also very modern. Stunning looking bird! I just wish Red Bull would bring her back to fly at Reno.
 
They are shiny and beautiful, but color adds its own beauty. Here is a P-38 over Iwo Jima on a fly by the island.

I'm a little out of the loop with the evolution of the FSD '38. From what I remember the SU model also shared foundations with the FSD offering. Could you please give us the details?

My FSD Lightning is one of the top's on my "best purchases" list.

The SU P-38 was done by me back in 05/06 for FS2004. It was later imported into FSX by the SU team and not me. They did upgrade the model and textures a little. The Milviz P-38 was a totally new model and has nothing in common with the SU P-38 other then it was a P-38, and also done by me. I have been a freelance artist for flight sims for over 10 years and have worked with just about every 3rd party dev out there including A2A, Vertigo, Milviz, FSD, ACES and many more. Sometimes project's cross each other.

Why did I made 2 P-38's? Honestly, its my 3rd P-38. My first one was in IL2 Sturmovik/Pacific Fighters/1946. I did that one for Oleg Maddox and was only 2500 polygons. The SU P-38 was around 15000 polygons if I recall, and the FSD/Milviz P-38 was over 250,000 polygons and by far the most accurate. Why make so many? Simple. I LOVE THE P-38!!!!!! =) The Milviz P-38 took me over 1 year to make, and its one of my finest models ever still to this day. Im really proud of it.

Will I make another P-38? Not for FSX. Who knows what flight sims will come down the road that needs a good Lightning...

This is truly ironic. I was going to end my last post with "The P-38 to me what the FW-190 is to Mathias"! I swear! Hahaha. Truly, coming from you, that is one hell of a complament! I guess you need SOMETHING to put in your Revi.

I just like modeling aircraft, and im really happy seeing others fly them. Im even happier that I sometimes get paid for it:jump:
