The Battle of Leyte Gulf

I have just one more vector to create (shipping lanes) then run make vector and ai pathing processes. After that I can concentrate on missions and creating some airfields.
I think the mission map will look something like the following pics which have lakes, dirt and surfaced roads, and railroads. I don't believe it will be too busy once some facilities are added. It adds some details and should be a help in setting up missions.

Started and finished the battle track locations of USN Taffy 3 and the IJN Central Force ships from 0710hrs to 0830hrs. From this mapping, I have the coordinates at each location along the track that can be used for developing the different missions. Also have locations of when ships were damaged and sunk.

Looking good. I found making roads and rails the fussiest part of the whole process
I agree, especially if there are no decent shape files to find and you have to create them using topo maps. Although I have found the Natural Earth shape files are pretty good.
Doing the ship locations are tedious but its very interesting reading the accounts of the battle action.

Almost ready to begin plotting out ship tracks in CFS3 mission builder and carrier launch of aircraft. Just need to convert degree decimal from global mapper to degree minute second for cfs3 MB.
Martin Wright has graciously modified his Scendb.exe for use in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. This is the 4th modification that he has done for the CFS3 community. This will give the ability to move facilities into and out of the global layer without using the gsltool.
I should also sing high praises of the shipbuilding mega company of Thudman & Pattle have come through with great ships for the navies.

In case you don't know,Talon did new xdp files for ships many years ago. They enhance the burning and smoking of them.He made posts about his work when he was working on them. Not all the ships were done,I guess just the ones he was using. All his work is on is still on his computer and my son flies all the old games on it.

Continue to work on master mission templates. The process starts by placing the ships in global mapper. Pat Pattle and Thudman have helped populate the theater with USN and IJN ships

Then placing the coordinates from global mapper into the mission file.

and we get something like this.

On the 18th of October when us forces began shelling the Tacloban area the airfield looked like this.

After the control of the airfield by us forces the airfield looked like this.

Thanks to Pat Pattle there will be 3 variations of the airfield and will be shuffled in and out by scenedb.exe depending upon the mission that is run.

Work continues on airfields, missions, ships and eye candy. Pic is of IJA controlled Nichols Field, Luzon. If you would like to contribute to the theater send me a message.
