No, those are not drop tanks, they are beer kegs! This clever chap flew what<o></o>​

had to be a very close contender for best fighter aircraft of WWII.<o></o>​

His unit was stationed in France shortly after D-Day. He had some reason to<o></o>​

return to England, then returned to France with some unofficial "ordnance" under<o></o>​

the wings of his Spitfire. When he came down from altitude, his "cargo" was chilled<o></o>​

to just the right temperature for a hot June afternoon.<o></o>​

Needless to say, his aircraft received some of the best servicing work<o></o>​

from grateful ground crews.<o></o>​

H'in't you ever seen those pics before Henry?

I read a story about one pilot who decided to tranport some whiskey in his gun bays.

When he landed the ground crew were so on the ball, they rushed out to re-arm the aircraft, opened the quick release doors on the underside of the wings and promptly smashed his precious load as it fell to the ground!

I saw a similar thing in a magazine, except it was a toilet, and they actually dropped it on the enemy's position during Vietnam! too funny

Neccessity is the mother of invention. :d He's lucky he wasn't jumped by some "thirsty" 109 or 190, or he would have lost his precious cargo. And think of the drag from thos 2 kegs...ouch.
